My other thread kind of got off the rails and the topic changed so I am starting this new thread.
Carb is freshly rebuilt (by me). Fuel pump is brand new. Spark plugs are brand new. The issue I had the last time I took the boat out is it ran perfect in all throttle ranges EXCEPT wide open. It would run up to about 80% throttle fine and if I mashed the throttle to get the accelerator pump to push fuel it would accelerate to WOT for about 5-10 seconds but then it would completely fall on its face. Same if I just gradually increased to WOT it would just fall on its face eventually. If I held it at 80% throttle it was completely happy and ran with no problem. I pulled a couple spark plugs to check if I was maybe rich or lean but they looked normal, not too sooty and no white deposits.
So last night I had it up on the trailer running on the hose for the first time since I had the issue at the lake. I started it up and noticed I had to crank it a little more than usual but it eventually started up. After the choke opened all the way I increased throttle a couple times to see if i could get it to replicate the issue. It ran normally. I got up to go back and check the engine and as I walked back to it the engine started chugging like it was way too rich then it stumbled and died. Then I noticed that fuel was still gurgling and pouring into the intake through the carb for at least a minute after shutdown. I suspect the float level is set incorrectly or the needle is stuck down as that is the only thing I can think of that would cause this issue. Has anyone else had something like this happen before? Is there any other troubleshooting steps I can take?
