Carburetor / fuel issues usually turn out to be something else.---Not a compression issue.-----Pull the flywheel.----If the 2 coils are original it needs a new set.----If coils have been replaced ( most have been ) you might clean and set the breaker pointes.
I’m back…..when replacing the plug wires I found the green wires from the coils were connected to the wrong points. Switched that as well as put new plug wires and caps and it runs now!

Just getting small spits of water from the holes on the drive shaft housing and the engine is getting hot so I am assuming the water pump is bad.

is it hot all over or just around the exhaust which is not cooled like bigger models ? .

in any event if new to you ...do change the impeller

The head and cylinders were too hot to touch after 5 minutes of running in a barrel.

After you change the water pump you might not have a lot of water coming out those small holes. A light mist or drips is all I get out of my 4 hp motors. A heavier spray at higher rpms.

Thanks. Ya I just changed it. It was spraying a warm mist just above idle. Had it running in a barrel for 30 minutes and the engine stayed warm this time.

What’s the trick to keeping the fuel screw in place? While the motor runs I can see the fuel screw turn from the vibration.

Tighten the packing gland nut.----A 7/16" wrench does the trick.----Would not hurt to add a couple of packing washers.
