It's a hobby for me too, I'm retired - so I'm not doing it to make money as an objective. However, if I can sell some of these motors - good. By tinkering with these, I'm also learning to work on the motors on my fishing boat - a 1987 Johnson 50 and a 2015 Tohatsu 6. Marine mechanics charge an obscene amount of money.buying restoring older 3-10hp outboards is not really a big money maker.
As a hobby I buy around 75-100$CDN I winter refurbish carb, ignition and gear oil to keep busy and sold several at $150 ... no profit really if one considers parts nad labor.... just happy boaters.
no big loss as I don't play 5-10 rounds of golf ! or smoke!.
I doubt you will find much below $50 for much of anything unless chineese stuff and they have no cowls
no cig$ pays for everything.![]()
