I was rebuilding my 2004 Yamaha 225 (F225 TURC) gearcase and there is a bearing and the larger bearing/race that I am not seeing on the parts breakdown. I have the correct year/model and it is not showing that shaft mid rig that the smaller bearing and large bearing/race ride on in the breakdown. Can someone help with the part numbers?
-Forward Gear bearing & Race
-Smaller cage bearing (name?)
I hope I was clear in describing what I need. Let me know if you need any more info..

Is this a new to you engine?
meaning has anyone else worked on the lower unit? Previous owner adding the bearing for clearance purposes? Just a guess?

do you think the OP does not know what motor he really has, or does he have the wrong lower unit on his motor?

All I think is that the propeller shaft picture in the OP's post looks more like an LF225TURC propeller shaft than it looks like an F225TURC propeller shaft.

Not unheard of for an LF225 gear case to be installed on an F225 motor. Or vice versa.

I saw the bearing listed on the left hand drive list and it started making sense. Yes, the label does in fact say F225TURC on my engine, and my prop turns like the right hand drive should.
My drive sat longer than I wanted and didn't have oil in it. The seals were tired and some moisture got in and wreaked havoc with all my bearings. Gears and fine..

did you run this before taking it all apart.
Just trying to make sure it has a prop that moves boat forward when you put controls in forward since this should be a LF lower unit from the parts you showed

You know, when I first hooked up the controls and was just running the boat on the trailer (fixing cooling issues) it did operate backwards when I dropped it into drive. I was at the ramp with the boat strapped down. I first thought that it was the cabling arrangement so I switched them at the helm. It then 'fixed' the issue. I took the boat out a few weeks later for the first maiden voyage and it operated like any other should.

did the prop come with the boat and motor?
or did you put a different one on?
looking at prop from behind is the prop & shaft turning clockwise when in forward gear or counterclockwise?

Sounds like an LF gear case being shifted and run in reverse so as to go forward with a right turn propeller.

I was thinking if that is true the thrust bearing is not being loaded up properly when pushing the boat forward.
at least that was what i was trying to find out

I bought the prop separate. I have it all apart so I cannot tell the direction. I never took notice of it in the past and I could have a reverse rotating and never knew it. Strangely, like I said in my post I reversed the shift cables at the binnacle and operates like a right hand rotating drive. Not sure if that works that way. I am waiting on bearings and don't have everything..
Q- which way does the shift shaft turn for forward? Clockwise?

I would put a counter rotating prop on it and put the cables back where they were before.
Exactly. I do appreciate all the efforts and comments back and forth to solve my issues and to bring forth my idiot-ness..
Any recommendations for a '22 Mako, like in my avatar? 17p, 19p?
