ok so i need some help . i have a 1977 Johnson 55hp 55el77d and it wont idle right . it will idle now but in gear i have to push the choke every so often. but it will idle in gear when i run it around full throttle for a bit but as some as it is off for 5-10 mins it starts acting up . so i rebuilt the carbs and also put a new feul pump on . nothing different and when i pump the primer gas comes out the carb . and i just found yesterday the the motor isn’t charging the battery now so any suggestions that would help thanks .

Might as well get together all the info you need to get answers....first, need an accurate compression test in each cylinder with real numbers. Then check the spark jump distance with a spark jump gap tool from auto store.
When you rebuilt the carbs, did you actually do a complete rebuild with the proper factory rebuild kit and set them to factory specs or did you jyst take them apart and clean them ? Once you get this info posted, others will jump in with more suggestions.

I can not see your carburetors !----If gas leaks out there is an issue with float or float valve.----Did you install factory carburetor kits?---Or a " good deal " from Amazon?

old style carb clean all orifices see misc utubes on how to clean old carbs
use carb cleaner and blow out with air compressor. check side channel passage leading to the top IDLE circuit and under the dime size plug
reassemble air should blow IN upside and N o air should blow in with carb held upside down !

Get an OEM or Sierra kit and try agin.
I have seen many cheap amozon kits with miss matched needles and seats which would explain your leaking carb. And follow Crosbymans instructions when cleaning.
