Yep. It's definitely in the early stages of development.

I heard a report on a news show this morning that we could see 99% unemployment within 5 years due to AI. Sounds outlandish to me, but who knows how bad it will actually get.

I'm old and retired, so no effect. My wife's an early development teacher, so not much impact. My millennial daughter has her own successful ice cream business, so unlikely any impact other than potential loss of income. But at lest AI doesn't eat ice cream.

Right now, if I was still designing( am a retired EE), I could have AI write physical code with 15 minutes of input from me that would basically save me an entire day of coding.

I have a Raspberry PI single board computer that I am playing with writing Python code for it. I have a couple Raspberry Pis already running but I didn't write the code for. With this one I am messing around with, I had a few things I want to implement where it controls a few things on my RV. I wrote a description of what I wanted it to do and immediately wrote out perfect Python code for it. All I had to do was designate the pinouts for the device which of course it put placeholders in for.

I just got a permit for a deck I am building at my Tahoe house. One of the things I had to do in order to get the permit was work with the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency. They needed me to answer questions for what they call "Findings". I told ChatGPT what I was building and where. What sections I wanted it to fill out and it gave me the entire findings that would have required me 3 hours to fill out.

Yes...I am impressed.

I use both ChatGPT and Google Gemini.

They said that about calculators when I was in college. I was forced to use a sliderule in freshman chemistry class.

Anybody heard of AI (Artificial Intelligence)? Seriously. And even more, the currently in development AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) .

Imagine an AI setup which has been programmed with all the knowledge, experience, training, insight, and even instinct of 10,000 expert mechanics, each with 20 years experience.

Just pull your car into the AI booth and it will wirelessly check everything that it can electronically and if it doesn't find anything there, it will direct the low level mechanic to check compression, for vacuum leaks and so on.

No more need for expensive mechanics with a ton of knowledge and experience.

And it's already happening, like it or not. It's coming.

But if the mechanic doesn’t know how to find bad grounds and trace a broken wire it is all for naught. Watch real pros in action like Eric O and Ivan (you tube).

My friend used it to help him write a wedding speech for his son. He put in all the main points he wanted to say and ChatGPT helped him write it.

I have used it to help me write some important letters.

My first metallurgy class in college was when programmable graphing calculators first came out.

I knew everyone with them had programmed all the formulas that we were to derive for mid terms. On the bottom of the mid term, I wrote "everyone with a graphing calculator will have aced this test, the rest of us honest students will have a slightly lower grade". The instructor went around, noted that everyone with an A did infact have an A on the test . Calculators were no longer allowed. 99% was given for the proper steps, and 1% was given for the final answer after that

And then professors actually realized that if you were smart enough to use the correct formula, it didn't matter if you had them programmed into your calculator or had them written down on a piece of paper(also eventually allowed) since that was what you do in a real job in the real world.

And all the experience, etc. of Eric O and Ivan will be programmed into the AI. That's the point. It'll take time, but in 5 years the world is going to be remarkably changed. Hopefully, for the better and not like with Skynet.

My one exam was figuring out if an incandescent light bulb would keep oscar the grouch warm in a trashcan in Antarctica with forced convection... you were allowed one side of an index card for that exam. (There were several other questions) I asked the professor if he wanted us to model it as a perfect cylinder or a cone and I heard several mumbles in the class of ah f***.

A 60 watt lightbulb was more than adequate if anyone was curious... though you had to assume the insulation was trimmed so the lid sat flush. Otherwise it wouldn't have been enough for the slight increase in volume and forced convection. I don't miss that...

I'm watching Fox News Sunday and they just gave a report about how soldiers in the field who do not have a maintenance background can download 1000 hours of maintenance videos to smart glasses.

Using generative AI, it allows them to fix vehicles in the field.

I guess it'll eventually be "There's an app for that."

I've had adaptive cruise control with my new 2026 Trucklet for a couple months now. I don't like it. I'd had it before on a 2013 Genesis and that one was fine.
My prior 2022 Trucklet had regular cruise only, which I liked a lot.

And I can't "turn it down" to a regular cruise on this vehicle. Wasn't an available option. So, I'm stuck with it.

I was out walking the other night on a side walk to was close to the road. I heard a car stop behind me and thought they were going to ask for directions or something. They said sorry but the car just stopped by its self. I’m not up to speed on most of this new stuff but I’m guessing it was some kind of animal detection or something that caused the car to stop on it own.

Yeah, they have radar detection for obstacles. Mine is too sensitive and has inappropriately hit the brakes a couple of times. Like when a vehicle pulled out into an adjoining lane last week. I was completely clear, but it hit the brakes anyway. I'm able to turn that feature off, but it automatically comes back on each time you start the engine.

Adaptive cruise IMO works best on 2 lane roads, you slow, pick up speed depending on who is in front of you. If you want to pass, push down on accelerator and override the cruise or cancel it then go

Four lane or more is bad because someone will pull in between you and you slow down quick to keep the gap. Use regular cruise with multi-lane
