IMG_1843.jpegGuess these guys shoulda pulled their boats…they are commercial fishermen from what I’ve seen, the harbor hasn’t frozen like this in at least 10 years.

plowing boat ramps is common place for those that live in northern states. how else do you get out on the ice to go ice fishing or snowmobiling

Years back I saw 2 guys in a small fishing boat, the ice wasn't thick like this, one guy on the bow was breaking the ice and the other was gunning the outboard! and they made it out to the bay from the location in my pix.

Dad's pulled boats in weather like that. Climb on the ice, drop through, repeat. You get a 45 degree day you have to go out. Usually south shore though.

We plow the ramps until the ice is too thick to break and get the boat out on the lake ...

And the news claims this cold spell is caused by global warming ! The earth warming up makes us colder ! Kinda like the new math I guess......
Nothing new for me as we are now seeing what winters were like when I was a kid.....The last decade has caused mother nature to go soft on us, but now she is back !!

From the Florida panhandle south to Tampa, and inland south to Okeechobee, all of Georgia, Louisiana, Alabama, the Carolinas and most of Texas

I've seen a shocking amount of cracked outboards last few years... and I just can't help but wonder how people manage that.

Folks today know little about mechanical things.----Do you see folks lifting the hood at the gas station to check oil ?----Or it costs too much to have the local boat shop do simple stuff like a lower unit reseal, I think.

It would help if I/Os had full closed cooling as standard. The issue is Merc’s attempt to make draining easier doesn’t solve the problem on raw water cooled engines because the east drain systems eventually clog. The manifold drains usually aren’t hard to get at but the block drains on any of the V6s or V8s are tough to get at….
