1974 Sea Ray SRV 240 Weekender - complete rebuild, refit, and who knows what else...

I have managed to accomplish virtually nothing on my boat this winter. The boat itself is in the back yard all covered up waiting for warmer weather, and the engine, transmission, and drive are all in the garage waiting to be looked at. Problem is, I've been too busy working on other side...

1974 Sea Ray SRV 240 Weekender - complete rebuild, refit, and who knows what else...

Day started out fairly nice - fairly warm for this time of the year. I was planning to get the tarp on the boat, decided to take a closer look at the gas tank while I was in there (and trying to get water to drain from the forward bilge). Quickly became apparent that the gas tank has been...

1974 Sea Ray SRV 240 Weekender - complete rebuild, refit, and who knows what else...

It was a productive day yesterday. On Saturday, built most of the components to set up a gantry. Yesterday morning, removed the canvas from the boat, rolled it into position (my dad's old Jeep with a hitch on the front is great for moving it around). Set up the Gantry over the boat...

1969 Sea Ray Rebuild (and mods) [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Finally found a bit of time yesterday evening to pull out the carb and re-build it (took the day off work to help my dad swap the head gasket in his car - got it done faster than I expected). First step, pulled the carb out, then disassembled the whole thing. One thing I've learned, is whenever...

1969 Sea Ray Rebuild (and mods) [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Just for fun - realized I had a picture from the same angle on the trailer when I first bought it and was hauling it home... So I combined the two pics as a before and after. Doesn't show the real work I did on the inside... A short video cruising across the lake Saturday: I still have...

1969 Sea Ray Rebuild (and mods) [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Overall, a successful weekend! Just got home, and the boat is back in the garage. Will order a carb re-build kit tomorrow, as well as a new oil pressure sender. Other than that, everything worked perfectly. A few pics... On the trailer on the way to the cottage: In the water, running...

1969 Sea Ray Rebuild (and mods) [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

A bit more progress... I have the trailer lights wired and ready to go, new license numbers on the boat, trailer properly registered and licensed. The drivers seat is bolted into the boat, everything else seems to be "ready to run". I still need to attach the battery tray and properly install...

1969 Sea Ray Rebuild (and mods) [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Working at two paying jobs gets in the way of getting as much done on the boat as I had hoped, but I guess it helps having money to do it when I can! Despite that, I took the day off work yesterday, managed to get the trim rams rebuilt and back on the boat. Now the trim works both up AND down...

1969 Sea Ray Rebuild (and mods) [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

I was out for the day yesterday, but told my dad he could start working on figuring out the spacing for the teak on the engine lid. Came home last night to this: The pieces of plywood are just spacers he made to get it all even until it's fastened down. This is the port side of the boat - but...

1969 Sea Ray Rebuild (and mods) [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Got the shift cables connected, rolled the boat out of the garage. Poured some gas in the tank, hooked up a hose on muffs. Got in the boat, cranked it over, and IT RUNS! The real test of course will come when the boat is in the water (after I get the trim and a couple of other issues solved)...

1969 Sea Ray Rebuild (and mods) [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

A bit more progress - two steps forward, one step back... Pulled apart the upper drive, installed all new seals. New intermediate shift shaft. Got the drive assembled, installed, filled with oil. All seems to be going well. Connected trim rams, filled system with oil. Trims up just fine...

1969 Sea Ray Rebuild (and mods) [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

A bit more progress over the past few days (worked on a bathroom reno Friday night and Saturday). Thursday night, installed the doors on the various storage cabinets. Saturday night, got the "console" installed. Nothing fancy, just a piece of plywood with a box on the back and a door...

1969 Sea Ray Rebuild (and mods) [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

This is one of the boards from the old bench that has been sitting in the back corner of our yard since we moved in 7 years ago - and who knows how long it was there before we bought the place. Went to throw out the bench, and the weight of the boards caught my dad's attention. Some sanding...

1969 Sea Ray Rebuild (and mods) [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

A little more progress yesterday... Fabricated a centre console (complete with locking glove compartment) out of plywood yesterday. The cutouts will house an acrylic panel for switches, as well as the trim buttons. The whole thing will get glassed, painted white. Also got the first coat of...

1974 Sea Ray SRV 240 Weekender - complete rebuild, refit, and who knows what else...

Also - again because my dad needs something to do - he decided to tackle the portlights on the boat. Some previous owner had screwed sheets of plexiglass (painted black on the inside) over both pairs of portlights, right over the frames and all, with about 1/2" thick caulking of unknown origin...

1974 Sea Ray SRV 240 Weekender - complete rebuild, refit, and who knows what else...

Despite my being way too busy - and very slow progress on my other boat (as I mentioned in my other thread), there HAS been a little bit of initial progress on this boat. Mainly because my dad (retired and lives upstairs in our house) gets bored and finds something to do... He pulled the...

1969 Sea Ray Rebuild (and mods) [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Some progress on the engine lid... Made a frame out of 3/4" plywood. Fitted a top layer using 3/8" plywood. Next step is to cover the plywood with glass, and then paint to match the rest of the boat. The door will have stainless hinges surface mounted on the near side, two round stainless...

1974 Sea Ray SRV 240 Weekender - complete rebuild, refit, and who knows what else...

In case I had any doubts about the condition of the transom, found this in the boat this week: The cabin is looking a bit rough - this is what is left of the berth: Haven't had time to work on either boat - was away for over a week on vacation, and then had to head out of town for a family...

1974 Sea Ray SRV 240 Weekender - complete rebuild, refit, and who knows what else...

Now that the boat is my driveway, I've been able to evaluate what I bought. Like I said, it's rotten to the core. The transom is held together by the outer skin. The swim platform (apparently teak that somebody decided to paint...) is pulling away, and standing on it causes a remarkable amount...
