    You're not visualizing my use case properly. This is on a pontoon, I'll only be looking at it while sitting at the helm, meaning 2' away, at most. I had a 5" before and was fine with it, only rarely wished I had something slightly bigger(That's what she said...before someone else does) ;)...

    It looks like my local Academy Sports has the QuickSilver 10W-30. Anyone see a problem with going mostly 10W30, but topping off the last 2 quarts with QuickSilver 25W40 Synth blend? I've got some left over from my previous boat.

    I've seen people say that on forums, which is why I'm asking. The sticker on my engine only lists 10W30 FC(W) with a 0-120 degree temp range. Thought I'd just stick with that, but I can't find it locally, only the 25W40...if I'm sticking to "marine" oil.

    I did do a bit more reading and I am becoming convinced that maybe it is a fuel quality/octane issue along with a hot motor, after all. I'll try some octane booster to see if that helps.

    Had no issues last season when it was put away. Winterized and added fuel stabilizer to a tank just below half full(about 12 gallons in a 26 gallon tank). 4 weeks ago it was de-winterized, fuel/water separator replaced and tank filled with non-ethanol gas. I don't recall if it was 89 or 91...

    From what I'm reading, it seems that any biodegradable soap can be used. Think I'll just give it a go next time and do my best not to sink my boat.
