    Tach is too high

    I have a 5.0 Mercruiser 1998 and my idle is set for 700rpm but my tach reads 1300. tach moves when you give it throttle but I want to replace the tach. I picked up a tach but it said ot to use it on Thunderbolt ignition. Any one knoe of a good tach that I can use.

    is water here normal?

    I was just running my boat again it is a 5.0 mecruiser with a Alpha one drive. I am getting water out two holes at the bottom of the gimble housing. Is this normal or should the water be coming thru the prop? Sorry if terms are wrong but im very new to this boat stuff

    Shift interupter

    Trim cylinder bleeding

    I just replaced my trim cylinders on my 1988 Chaparral 198xl. Ive run them in and out quite a few times and the Oil is very milky. Should the oil be changed or is it air that needs bled out?

    Dumb question time

    I have a 5.0 mercruiser 1998. I have been looking at this forum for about a month and everyone is saying the choke should be closed when starting. Is this opposite of what a car does? And yes my boat does crank now. It was more out of timing than I expected. thanks all for your help on that one.

    5.0 backfiring thru carb

    5.0 Mercruiser 1988. I haev backfiring thru carb. Timing is close. Use the thumb over the #1 cylinder method. New cap, rotor, plugs and wires. It has Thunderbolt 5 Ignition system. Not sure what it could be. Rotor is at #1 cylinder when at tdc so im confused. Any suggestions?
