Splashwell drain

Looked everywhere on the web and here in town for a splashwell drain, 3/4 hole diameter, for 1 and 1/4 inch transom. No luck. Any leads, ideas? Don't want to make the hole bigger...this is a restoration of a 62 Texas Maid Impala aluminum runabout. Lot's of thru-hull fittings out there that...

    aluminum boat deck questions

Got the old floor and assorted accumulation of trash/gunk/dirt out of my aluminum runabout today. Huzzah for the shop vac! Can you get panels/sheets of closed cell foam at the box stores? Need to replace the little styrofoam that was below my old deck. What type of screws should I use to secure...

Rigging two old OMC outboards on my boat

I want to put two late-50's OMC 18 hp outboards on the back of my old Texas Maid aluminum runabout. I can figure out the steering part, but any ideas on how to rig these (throttles/shifts) to one control? Or would I have to have two controls...one for each outboard? Any advice/ideas are appreciated.

    New project, transom question

I just acquired a 63' Texas Maid 15 ft. Impala runabout, all aluminum. Will have to pull/replace the floor and transom (from top/inside). Going to use tashasdaddy's recommendations for the floor, but need to ask about the transom. Looks like the old board/transom is plywood. Would it be best to...

    Merc Mark 7...The Rocket Lives!

Put the Merc Mark 7 I have been working on in the water tub this evening for a test run. Had to replace coils/plug wires/gas tank and recoil, plus a thorough carb cleaning and improvised fuel line. It fired up and ran on the 3rd pull...yahoo! Runs quiet and smooth, but as I feared the water...

    Merc Mark 7 timing

Okay, just a few hours away from getting the old Merc Mark 7 running. New coils and wires, good spark, good compression, clean tank/line/carb, fresh LU grease. Only one prob. When I diassembled the mag plate to clean it, I didn't notice which plug wire/coil fires the top cylinder. I think it was...

Hey guys, Photos of my boat the Belle Star are attached. Need to add 2 seats to her...my aching back can't take the rear bench seat any longer. Two questions: 1.) Where and how would you mount 2 folding, swivel seats in the BStar? I'm thinking clamp on bases with folding seats. Is it best to...

    Old Merc questions....Chinewalker???

Just acquired an Merc Mark 7 Rocket, in passable shape. Some questions...what's the best way to clean/chase the threads on the crankshaft? Got the flywheel off and will have to redo the magneto, coils/etc, but the last owner buggered the top two or three threads. Time for a tap/die kit? 2nd...

    Small boat helm controls

Trying to figure out how to rig remote throttle and steering for my antique 14-foot tin skiff with 3 seats powered by a 58 Johnson 18 hp outboard. Anyone have any ideas, or better yet, links to sites/firms that offer this kind of thing? Tiller steering is okay, but not something my damaged left...

    Bad condensor???

    Hey guys,
I recently got a little Wizard WD3. Nice motor and had a sharp spark, too, until the stator/mag plate got damp while I was degreasing it. Went through the mag, cleaned/regapped the points and replaced the plug wire. Now, no spark. I tested the coil and points for resistance with...

    ancient Johnson

    Hey guys/gals,
I have an ancient 1 cylinder Johnson model 100, 1.7 hp outboard. Want to do a rull restoration. It is missing the coil and coil heels, which produce spark from the spinning flywheel. I have a line on an actual NOS coil, but still need the coil heels. Anyone know of a place in...

    Crankshaft problem

I recently acquired a Wizard WD3 in good shape, except the threads on top of the crankshaft are kinda buggered up. Someone apparently lost the nut that holds the flywheel down tight and managed to cross thread the top of the shaft while trying to thread a ******* fitting on there as a flywheel...

    Kill switch retrofit

    Okay guys,
I'm waiting for the lower unit on my 73 Merc 500 to come back from the shop (reseal) and I'm wondering bout somethin. It doesn't have a lanyard kill switch like the modern motors. Have lived without one so far, but is this a MUST HAVE safety feature? If so, is there a source for...

    Hey guys,
Would you please kill the thread "cats in my boat"?? It is not a productive discussion...back when it started all the way up to today. This is the kind of thread that attracts crazies...and I like being the only certified crazie aboard! Thanks in advance.

TWM

1973 Merc 500 lower unit seals

Can anyone point me to an online source for the seal kit for this motor/lower unit?? Also, I know shop prices are quite variable, but what is a fair price to pay for a pressure/vacuum test and reseal job?? The mech I was using left town in a hurry, hmmm, and I am working with a new shop now...

    Need your wisdom...74 Merc 500

    Hey guys,
Well I got up the nerve today to pull the carbs and put a kit in them on my 74 Merc 500...started it up to get it ready for season and noticed fuel coming out top of the top carb. No sweat on that, but as I was removing stuff to get the carbs off, I noticed the wire cluster...

    Prop ID

    Hey guys,
I am trying to identify the pitch on an old michigan wheel prop that came off a mid-60's Evinrude Starflite 8 V4 80 hp outboard. Here's the numbers I can see: on the outside face of the hub is "Michigan PJ 75". On the barrel of the hub between blades are these numbers: 11394. Are...

Joe Reeves or others...60's Evinrude/Johnson question

    Calling Joe Reeves,
Your info on how to start a 59 Johnson fat 50 was right on target. Now another question...Is the 62 Evinrude 75 hp V4 mechanical shift? Would the electric starter fit on a 59 Johnson fat 50 V4? I am going to inherit the Evinrude soon. It's on a boat and I'm thinking...
