    Skeg versus driveway

This one has me a little worried. Returned home from second time out this season. All went very well. Backed up driveway, stopped and parked the rig to lower the outboard (so it would clear the top of the garage door), then took care of golden retriever that had come along with me (she was...

    Merc 115 hp throttle question

As a newbie boater last year, I was a little perplexed by the center of the throttle where it connects to the starboard sidewall. I thought I read in a manual somewhere that the center was a round button that, when pushed, would make the engine run up in RPMs while the shifter was in neutral...

    Lug nuts

Just got my boat out of storage today. Decided to rotate the tires. The rig was new last year, so I was a little surprised to see a bit of rust on a couple of the lug nuts. Got me thinking what it would be like out on the highway with a flat and lug nuts that were all rusty from neglect...

    Zebra muscles in MN lakes

There was a story in this morning's Minneapolis Star Tribune on how zebra muscles were found in big numbers in one of the popular local lakes (Prior Lake). This is very discouraging, indeed. The biggest and most popular lake near the Twin Cities is Lake Minnetonka, and folks who live on its...

    Positive sign for economy?

The boat dealership I bought our rig from last year (near Twin Cities, MN) had an open house this past weekend. It actually started on Friday and went through Sunday. I went on Saturday to attend a seminar they held on sonar. Afterward I headed into the showroom to say "Hi" to our salesman...

    Rotate spare tire?

We bought a new rig last year (boat, motor, trailer). The trailer has a spare tire on board. I'm wondering if and when that there spare should be rotated with the other tires. Since the trailer doesn't have an odometer, I honestly can't say how many miles we put on it last year. Only a guess...

    Lake Kabetogoma, MN

Just curious if anyone has stayed on Lake Kabetogoma near Voyageur's National Park in northern Minnesota and, if so, which resort and your review. Looking to go this summer. Thanks, Ken.

    Economy - mixed signals

Put ad on Craigslist yesterday to sell my '99 Buick Regal LSE with 77,738 miles and within 10 minutes, the time it took for the ad to actually get posted, the phone rang. When I placed the ad I wasn't sure if no one would call because of the economy, or if everyone would call because of the...

    Dolly for trailer front wheel?

Just wondering if anyone makes a dolly you can lower the trailer tongue jack on in order to more easily more the trailer around in the garage. I know there's a 2-wheel trailer mover that connects with the coupler and has a long handle used for leverage, but I'm looking for something without...

    Chain saw Stupid Human Trick

Yesterday I walked into local lawn & garden supply store to buy a part for my mower. Guy comes in behind me and puts his old Echo chain saw on the counter. "Where's Tom?", he asks. Counter guy explains Tom just left to run some errands. "Well, Tom tuned up my chain saw a couple of months ago...

    She did it!!

My wife is no longer afraid. She got up the courage today to learn how to dock our new boat ('08 Lund 1750 Fisherman), which means she learned slow speed maneuvering techniques that I learned from a course by the U. S. Power Squadron. Definitely not the easiest thing to do when you're new to...

    New Bearing Buddies

Our new Shorelandr' trailer came with Bearing Buddies installed. Last weekend I decided to check them. The manual and website says that if you can rock or otherwise move the piston, then the system is charged correctly with grease. If you can't, then you should add grease until the piston...

    Lesson learned about A/C companies

Our A/C circuit breaker tripped for the first time in its 12 year history. I reset it only to have it trip again, so I called the company we bought it from to come out and see what was wrong. It's $99 just to shake hands and say "Hi!" He took the cover off and checked the wires connecting the...

    On-board charger running really warm

New boat, new on-board Dual Pro Charger. Plugged it in for the first time today to recharge the two deep cycle marine batteries used for the trolling motor. We've used the motor about 4 hours so far. On top of the charger box are two rows of LED indicator lights, presumably one for each...

How better are furnaces & A/C units these days?

Our A/C compressor isn't working. Appears it needs R-22, but will find out tomorrow when repairman shows up. Anyway, it got me to wonder if I should be thinking about replacing both the A/C and the furnace. The A/C is 12 years old; furnace 16 years old. Has the efficiency really improved...

    Got my SHT merit badge!

I guess it was just a matter of time. Yep, I'm a newbie. Picked up new boat on May 1st and have launched and retrieved it 9 times since. Since I joined this wonderful forum last year I've been reading of the experiences of others and taking good mental notes, hoping beyond hope that I don't...

Change out tire on the road

Sorry, another newbie question... I'm curious how one goes about changing a tire on his/her trailer. Our Shorelandr's frame sits about 17" off the ground. What kind of jack do you use, and where is the jacking point on the trailer? Any other advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Locking gas cap?

I'm thinking of keeping my Lund 1750 Fisherman in the extra parking stall in the heated underground garage at my Mom's condo complex, but there have been a few reports over the years of residents having gas stolen from their tanks. Perhaps my question belongs in the Lund forum (sorry), but...

    Merc reputation

I read on another topic in the iBoat forum where some people were keel hauling Mercury outboards. Couldn't say anything nice about them. And, further, that anything owned by Brunswick was of questionable quality. That's disturbing because wife and I recently ordered a popular brand aluminum...

    E20 fuel

Has anyone heard much about E20 (ethanol) and what it's effect is on newer outboards? Apparently there's a law, or a proposed law, that will require all gas to be E20 by August of 2013 in Minnesota. That's just five and a half years from now.
