    Slightly over powered?

I have a 125 horse power force on a mid 1980s Bayliner center console. I replaced the deck and added some reinforcement to the stringers a few years ago. It looks like I have a bad cylinder on my 125 horse outboard. I have 150 horse force outboard in the garage. The boat is rated at maximum...

    Stator alignment?

So I put a new trigger and stator on my 125 horse 1988 Force outboard. The stator came from CDI, and the trigger came from standard magneto. I think I must have installed one or the other wrong, because I can’t get the timing sufficiently advanced, even with the adjustment maximized. The...

1982 Evinrude 175, inoperative power trim pump

I have a 1982 Evinrude 175 on the stands after buying it off Facebook marketplace. I got it fired up, but can't get the power trim to work. The pump has three wires: blue, green, and black. (Previous owner cut them when he removed the outboard from the old boat.) As I understand it, blue is...

    Repair Manual, Evinrude E175TRXCNB

I prefer the OEM manuals when I can afford them, but pricing manuals on eBay, they look pretty high for this model... $70-$90, used. Anybody had any luck with the aftermarket or downloadable online manuals?

1982 Evinrude E175TRXCNB, leaks fuel at primer solenoid.

So, I got an Evinrude 175 to put on my 1980s Aquasport 222. I have it on a stand and got it started today, just to hear it run before I put it on the boat (probably in the spring). It dripped a little fuel from the primer solenoid. Looked like it was coming from around the manual valve...

    Diagnose compression problem Johnson 150?

Is there a way to find out if low compression on one cylinder on a 1996 150 hp looper (J150EXECD) is a bad head gasket or some other problem?

    Swap powerhead? Johnson J150EXECD

My Johnson J150EXECD has a compression problem. One cylinder at 95, all others 110-115. It's a 1996 . Looks like I'll have to rebuild or replace the powerhead. Hard to start and runs rough. I'm looking at an older 225 hp Evinrude motor I can get for $250 (see pics). Seller says it's late...

    DIY Force 125 test wheel?

Has anybody had any luck modifying an old propeller to make a test wheel for a force 125 outboard? I can’t find one online, but I’ve seen a few guys on YouTube make them for other brands. Not sure how effective they are. Seems a little dangerous if you get it out of balance.

    Force 125 shift shaft seal

I am replacing the seals on a 1987ish Force 125 lower unit. The shift control shaft has a rubber grommet that seals it. The old grommet was held in with a metal cap that was pressed into a socket on top of the gearcase. The new grommet is too wide in diameter to fit in that cap. (It does fit...

Play in the prop shaft, fore and aft, Force 125

My 1987 Force 125 has play in the prop shaft. You can move it fore and aft about 1/16 inch. See video. Is this normal? Just noticed it. It also has become almost impossible to get the shift cable adjusted properly.

    Timing retarded? Force 125

I am trying to set the timing on my Force 125 with Prestolite ignition. It's giving me fits. It is still firing the #1 cylinder too retarded, according to the Force manual. I watched Frank's video, but still can't get it right. The timing light shows the 28 degree mark to the left of the...

Running a Force 150 with no lower unit?

So, I'm putting together a Franken-Force, using components from old 125 hp outboards and a 150 powerhead I got cheap a few years ago. I have the powerhead seated on the mid-section. I've got good spark and compression on all cylinders. Before I put any more $$$ in it, I was thinking about...

Force 150 stator wire color codes

So I bought a Force 150 powerhead and center section, hoping to piece it together. I am trying to test the stator output and reconnect the stator wires to whatever CDI modules I can scrape up. I have a Force 150 factory service manual, so I thought I was all set... but... The wiring colors...

Johnson J150EXECD Carburetor float bowl replacement, nozzle well gasket?

I have 1998 Johnson 150 V6 150 hp looper that has fuel leaking from some of the carburetor bowls. From what I've read online, the only solution is to replace the gaskets AND the bowls, since the problem stems from the fact that the plastic bowls warp over time. I am looking at the parts...

What HP kicker for a 22 foot bowrider?

I just bought a 22 foot bowrider, 1987 Aquasport Sandpiper 222. Rated at 2200 lbs on the web, but "looks" heavier. It has a kicker plate, but no kicker. I am wondering what size outboard would be best for a kicker. My main interest would be using it to "limp home" if I have engine trouble...

    Johnson J150EXECD driveshaft play

I am replacing seals in a 25" lower unit and wonder if it is normal to have this much movement in the driveshaft. I can wiggle it back and forth, both left-to-right and fore-and-aft. See video.

Johnson 150 has "smushed" crossover tube behind starter

I am working on a 1998 Johnson 150, 60 degree looper, and I took the starter off to check it. Behind the starter was a small tube, I would call it a crossover tube, running from one fitting to another on the powerhead. It looks completely flattened. It should be easy to replace, but was it...

    VRO conversion 150 hp

I have 150 hp outboard with an Evinrude Bombardier cover, but the model number is J150EXECD, so I think it's a Johnson. it needs a fuel pump, and I am thinking about switching it to manual fuel/oil mix. The kits I see on the Internet say they won't work with a 60° or a looped engine. Two...

Compression and transfer port covers, Force 150

So I'm trying to figure out if my 150 hp powerhead is useable. Compression test showed about 160 on the bottom four cylinders and 125 on the top. In another post an experienced guy suggested I take a look at the transfer ports. When I pulled the transfer port covers off, I found that many of...
