    Donated Fenders

Forgot to retrieve my fenders yesterday. Got back to the channel and they were gonzo. Went back across but couldn't find them. I'm sure I can't be the first to pull this SHT. If you happen to se a couple of nice white fenders near the west side of Kelly's....those are mine.

    Camper top leaks at stitching

Especially where the glass meets canvas. Any idea on waterproofing?

Stranded at PIB and the generosity of others.

What was supposed to be an overnight trip turned into 2 1/2 days on South Bass. Honkin winds in the 20 MPH range whipped up the lake to the point where it wasn't safe to head back to our launch point until 9 this morning. A couple of minor problems...my fender ripped so last night was an...

http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2011/08/1_killed_2_injured_in_lake_eri.html PUT-IN-BAY, Ohio -- A pleasure boat traveling through a storm in the dark slammed into a breakwall near northwest Ohio's Lake Erie islands, killing a Kelleys Island woman and injuring two others, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

    Solas vs. Quicksilver

Chewed up a prop yesterday. Replaced a Solas with the same size and pitch Quicksilver. Noticable difference in performance. Jumps up on plane quicker. I was surprised. Wonder why?

What do you think of my idea?

I keep reading about people having trouble determining what pitch of prop they should be using. I know from personal experience it gets expensive hanging props and trying them out. What about a disposable hard plastic temporary prop that would be cheap enough to try out?...or as a temporary...

Think I spun a prop today

While pulling my son on a large underinflated tube with both biminis up and into a headwind I believe I spun my prop today. Did it a couple of times. Retracted the biminis and got rid of the tube and didn't have a problem for the rest of the day. Can you spin a prop and have it still be...

    1968 Lyman Flybridge

Had the pleasure of taking a cruise in a friends meticulously restored '68 Lyman. Absolutely amazing resotration of a classic wood craft. 3 year project. Twin 327s, velvet drives, thru hull. Lyman Harbor in Sandusky where she was built. Factory in the background Only sign of...

    Staying clear of fishermen

Last Tuesday we went for a cruise. There's a channel to get from the marina through the harbor and out into Erie. Pretty clearly marked with red and green bouys. There was a small boat fishing anchored pretty much in the middle of the channel. I slowed down to try and reduce my wake. I...

    Something got knocked loose today...

Battling 5 and 6 foot rollers with 3 second intervals on Erie something in the drive got knocked loose. Came back to the slip and noticed the unpleasant sound of water trickling in. Since my tow vehicle was 2 hours away I had them hoist it out. Nothing obvious from a short visual...

    Spider control

First year in a slip on Lake Erie. We're amazed at the amount of little spiders that get on the boat. Any suggestions on control or prevention.

    Recommendations

A post in another thread got me to thinking. My only anchor rides in a locker on the bow. There's no good way to get to it. The easiest is to go out the hatch. It's a PITA on a calm day. Throw in some rough water.... Need some ideas.

    Trimming in chop?

Leaving PIB last week we encountered 3-4' chop. Really slowed us down. I tried several different trim settings and couldn't get comfortable so I just trimmed all the way down and rode through it. Depending on which direction the waves were coming in to me sometimes I was plowing through them...

    Nice technique

We were tooling around South Bass on our golfcart when we wound up at the State Park ramp. I pulled in to watch an older couple preparing to launch a +-21 ft center console. He got in the truck, she walked up next to the rig. I thought she would get in but he immediately backed down the ramp...

Home Made 30A Shore Power Cable

OK...wiring question. I have an L6-30 male end. I cut the end off of an extension cord. Green is obviously the ground. I have black and white left. The plug wire inlets are labeled x and y. All three of the screws are brass. The ground screw has green dye. The instructions that came with the...

Trying to get into the slip in the wind

Winds were honking at Lake Erie yesterday. Hauled the rig up to it's new summer home on East Harbor. Obviously I need some tips on maneuvering in close quarters when the winds are up. Didn't hit anyone else's rig but came close. Would have never gotten cleanly into my slip without some...

    Shore Power

This year we're at a real slip that has 30A shore power available. I have no shore power connector on my rig and I want to run a trickle charger for the batteries. Is it really this simple?
