1983 Monark 16/52 rebuild flooring question

Thank you so much for your input. I have the snaps already but it’s my first time using any. Fear of uncharted territory. Lol What made me start thinking Velcro I ran across some in my shop. The hook and loop all weather adhesive etc. I had used it on the seats I built on the rear bench which is...

1983 Monark 16/52 rebuild flooring question

Hello everyone, I’ve been working on my jon boat off and on . I’ll do a part then fish a while. This ones had me off the water for a few months. I removed the old plywood and metal flooring and found pitting and corrosion. The way the flooring was put together it held moisture all the time. The...

    Still going strong

Three pallets tied together to make a triangle and weighted down. Easy. But that crappie was caught here at Indian Lake where I live. The other pic was at Bastrop. When I lived on Lake Limestone a friend of mine was a guide and I helped him sometimes. He would take a willow tree (size depending...

That Crappie was even caught in a structure that Faztbullet told me how to make.

I wanted to post a thank you to the site. Sea Rider and all the others that gave advice. From rebuilding carburetors that looked so bad I thought they were dead , to answering prop questions and problems I found with the haul , the list goes on as I looked back today at all the post I made. My...

Sealant for rivets inside aluminum jon boat

I went back and read it again. The guy was talking about aluminum that had oxidation. He said it happens just minutes after you clean it then later the oxidation separates from the aluminum taking the 5200 with it. He must not have applied it like you do. Looks like I’m back on the 5200 wagon.

    Pitting/corrosion on jon boat bottom

I’ve been finding a few spots of surface rust under the coating I’m taking off. Along with more small pitting. I want to put something on it that’ll put a stop to all that. I admit I do over think and worry to much about my boat but I need it to last me as long as possible. My wife calls my boat...

Sealant for rivets inside aluminum jon boat

I was thinking of 5200 but I read that it doesn’t adhere good to bare aluminum.

Sealant for rivets inside aluminum jon boat

Thank you sir. I appreciate it. I screwed up when I first started and used the wrong wire brush instead of stainless steel. Is there anyway I can fix it?

Sealant for rivets inside aluminum jon boat

Thought I’d start a different thread for this question for the aluminum gurus. I’m taking the floor of my 1983 Monark down to bare aluminum. What should I use to seal around the rivets before priming and painting? The boat hasn’t leaked but I figured it would be a good idea while I’m at it...

    Pitting/corrosion on jon boat bottom

Well I’ve managed to spend a few hours on the boat with a rectangular sander and a mouse sander along with a wire brush. First I sealed off the intake box on the motor because I know some of the dust will get past the cover and the cowling. (Blowing it out with the compressor as I go.) When I...

    Pitting/corrosion on jon boat bottom

I went at it again with my pressure washer yesterday. This time way more aggressive. I removed almost all the black coating. Left what looks like some of the original paint/primer. The rest is bare aluminum. There’s some light rust spots across exactly where the middle seat used to be. And a...

    Pitting/corrosion on jon boat bottom

I had to put off the boat and take care of other things. I have cleaned it up then used baking soda and scrubbed it with a regular house broom. Now I have bare aluminum in some spots and small pitting. Can you give me advice as to should I cover it with paint etc. to protect it or strip the...

    Grease seal thickness

Thanks for all the information. I’ll definitely study so I know more for the future. I got a National seal today and finished installing the hub by torque to spec then backed off and finger tight to the pin hole. Topped it off with new Bearing buddies which I’ll check often until all the air...

    Grease seal thickness

Thanks for replying. I was drinking coffee this morning and it dawned on me that it works this way. Then I started kicking myself for missing the obvious. That’s what happens though. I started worrying about the seal and the dominos effect kicks in. I bought these seals trying to save money and...

    Grease seal thickness

I’m in total agreement which is why I’m concerned about this one. Do you happen to know what type of seal your using. The seals I have where cheap compared to the one Ive found here at the parts store. Made by National $20. That’s what was on it when I had the blow out and I can see damage but...

    Grease seal thickness

Hello again everyone. I’m here for more education. I had a blow out on my boat trailer coming home and couldn’t get off the road for a few miles. Today I was replacing the bearings and cleaning the grease off everything etc. Got the inner bearing packed and dropped it into the race I replaced...
