correct plugs and wires for points type distributor on 140 engine

I think ive finally gotten my fuel/vacuum leak issues sorted. Now i'm having trouble with the ignition. Are these old points distributors supposed to have resistor plug wires? What is the interchange for the ac delco cr44N plugs that my manual calls for? Currently my setup has ac delco...

Rochester 2 jet running rich before and after rebuild

Does anyone know what the functional difference is between the windowed and windowless bowl gaskets? I've been using the windowed but this new carb came with the windowless installed.

Rochester 2 jet running rich before and after rebuild

Well i got the new core from ebay and so far it looks great. Much less corrosion inside because the varnish protected the casting. There's very little wear on the power piston and the throttle shaft appears to have been replaced already. I'm gonna grab another gasket set and see how this thing...

Rochester 2 jet running rich before and after rebuild

The power piston circuit doesn't hold vacuum at all when i apply it with a hand pump. The piston itself is kinda scratched up on the sides and the bore seems to have a little wear in it. I tried to dress it up with a brass wire wheel in a dremel. It would make perfect sense if the power valve...

Rochester 2 jet running rich before and after rebuild

Yeah that's been the problem with this whole project. Trying to find used parts that aren't total junk. I'm gonna check into their rebuilding service if it comes to that. I hate to admit defeat.

Rochester 2 jet running rich before and after rebuild

Aah makes sense since the throttle bores are cast iron. I tried pinching off the supply line till my pressure gauge read 3-4psi and it didnt seem to make much difference. Another thing i saw is some casting porosity where the main jets screw in but thats probably been there since day 1. The...

Rochester 2 jet running rich before and after rebuild

I could try the pressure regulator. The mercruiser book does say 3.5-4.5lbs of fuel pressure for this carb model. It needs throttle shaft bushings for sure which results in the rear mixture screw being about 1/4 turn further out than the front. One other thing i noticed is the check ball seat...

Rochester 2 jet running rich before and after rebuild

Anyone have experience with reman 2 jets? Seems like my options are either chinese knock off for around $175 or reman for 250.

Rochester 2 jet running rich before and after rebuild

I did the fuel pressure test today. I've got between 4.5 and 5psi at 800rpm which is as low as i can get it to idle. It drops to 4.5 around 1500rpm. I can see droplets on the throttle plates while running but i cant see fuel coming out of the venturi itself. It's a little wet around the venturi...

Rochester 2 jet running rich before and after rebuild

The float is the old school brass style and it didn't appear to have any holes when i submerged it. Accelerator pump is new, as for the fuel pressure i haven't tested it but can setup for that and report back. The wet spot im describing is under the carb where the vacuum port that goes to the...

Rochester 2 jet running rich before and after rebuild

So ive got this rochester marine carb that i cant figure out. It's somehow getting too much fuel which is causing a really terrible idle and black smoke. So far ive rebuilt it twice using different kits, vacuum tested the needle and seat which were good, tested the float in water with no...

Correct hardware for installing new floor planking?

I'm currently putting new plywood floors in a 74 strarcraft aluminum V hull. The factory used long pop rivets to fasten the planks to the stringers. Would it pose a problem to use stainless steel sheet metal screws in place of the rivets? I can get either one but screws would be a lot easier...

Welding a gimbal housing yay or nay?

The ebay seller i got it from gave me a refund so there's no need to fix this housing. I have seen those aluminum brazing rods but have never tried one. I always use my ac/dc tig but it usually produces ugly results on old dirty castings.

Welding a gimbal housing yay or nay?

So i've got this gimbal housing all ready to swap into my boat but it's cracked right where the U joint bellows mount. Anyone have success welding these things? It's only in the lip that supports the bellows not the structural part for the gimbal bearing.

Using regular steel bolts on outdrive

https://www.boltdepot.com/fastener-information/materials-and-grades/bolt-grade-chart.aspx Maybe this chart is too simplistic but it puts 18-8 and 316 in the same category. Are these bolts gonna be too soft for this application? I'm used to working on land vehicles where i rarely use anything...
