Power Trim Help on 3.0 Mercruiser Alpha 1 Gen 2 will go down but not up HELP!

Seem widely available. I just did a quick search on eBay Solenoids https://www.ebay.ca/itm/112056452576?hash=item1a1715c5e0:g:ekYAAOSwGXtXh7Sa Trim Switch https://www.ebay.ca/itm/194143708554?hash=item2d33dde58a:g:5FsAAOSwWUJgpohC Be aware that replacing the trim switch is a PIA. The outdrive...

Temp switch went off - overheating engine?

Thanks, Chris. By fast idle I mean 1000 RPMS. At the ramp with the boat on the water and trim all down, I did bring it close to 3000. Temp sender and gauge seems to work fine based on my initial testing. IR temp gun will tell the truth. It's so strange that the alarm went off when I turned the...

Temp switch went off - overheating engine?

No. But unless it broke out of the blue, engine was fine at the ramp and performed well all the time. And if it broke, so did the temp gauge? I'll bring a IR temp next time I get my hands on the boat. I want to think it's just the temp switch that went bad. Hopefully!

Another blown head gasket - Fuel Mixture?

To close this topic up. I put together the engine without messing with the carburator nor the timing. The engine runs like a champ now (Pat myself on the back for adjusting the valves first time right 😉). No more rough idle..it's super smooth and quiet. Power is back. At this point I strongly...

Power Trim Help on 3.0 Mercruiser Alpha 1 Gen 2 will go down but not up HELP!

And yes, trim limit switch is another possibility. Turn the drive all the way to starboard and check the cables aren't broken (mine broke long time ago,). If they are, then bypass the trim switch limit cables inside. If it still doesn't go up after that it's either the UP selenoid or the pump...

Power Trim Help on 3.0 Mercruiser Alpha 1 Gen 2 will go down but not up HELP!

If it goes down but not up, then the fuse isn't the problem. There is only one fuse feeding both selenoids. I once experienced something similar. The relay or selenoid contact was all rusted...mine stopped going down, not up. I took apart all the selenoids and the copper bar...cleaned them all...

Temp switch went off - overheating engine?

Hey folks, 17 footer 1992 Cadorette bowrider 3.0 Merc 1998 Alpha one gen one. Need your input here. I just replaced the blown head gasket of my 3.0 (reconditioned/resurfaced the head and had the block's flatness verified) and I also replace the ripped exhaust bellow and installed a brand new...

Another blown head gasket - Fuel Mixture?

An update here. I had the head resurfaced. The engine shop guy said the head was in pretty bad shape. Also, he's 90% sure the head's imperfections blew the gasket. The block is as straight as it could be. I guess if the engine went 60 hours with a messed up head and rev abuse, it should last...

Another blown head gasket - Fuel Mixture?

The boat is 17 feet; 2200 pounds (According to nadaguides). Max rpm is 4800 (now I know) Drive ratio...not sure it appears to be 1.94 Max Speed on my GPS Speedometer ~47 mph. I normally cruise at 30-35 mph.

Another blown head gasket - Fuel Mixture?

Thanks. As soon as I install the head back, I'll find another tach and run it parallel with mine...I hope that explains why I thought I was doing 5500.

Another blown head gasket - Fuel Mixture?

    I don't understand. What's wrong with running a 14.25/21 on a 3.0?

Another blown head gasket - Fuel Mixture?

Forgot to mention...it runs a 21 pitch prop.

Another blown head gasket - Fuel Mixture?

I don't know. It's been the same since I bought the engine. Never had to adjust it...as said the engine always ran "perfect". How do I check that?

Another blown head gasket - Fuel Mixture?

Thanks for the tip. I thought the WOT was 5800. In any case I've brought it to that speed maybe twice in perfect mirror lake conditions. I normally cruise at 4500 max. So you don't think the fuel mixture caused it? I'll look for those bolts

Another blown head gasket - Fuel Mixture?

Hey folks, I searched around but didn't find the answer to my specific question. I/O: Merc 3.0 4L (1998) - Alpha one Gen 1 Boat: Cadorette Nuova 170 I replaced my engine with a used one about 3 years ago. The used engine had blown the head gasket, so I replaced it. I have put about 60 hours...

Proper way to wire a kill switch on Thunderbolt IV

I think mine is 12. Based on the chart it would be 10A @ 4.6 meters... which seems low for the ignition plus instruments.

Proper way to wire a kill switch on Thunderbolt IV

Thanks. They seem difficult to find. I found a 12 amp kill switch...nothing above.

Proper way to wire a kill switch on Thunderbolt IV

Thanks but that's not my question. My question is whether a 5 amp rated kill switch would withstand the current drawn by the engine and instruments.
