Did some glass work. Also built a rack for the rolls.

So I have one more question to ask everyone. I will be bedding the stringers but I was just wondering, how in the world to join the 2 sheets of ply together to get my full ~14 foot length. I originally planed to scarf them together but seeing how the ply was just in there to support the...

I'm glad I'm not the only one who makes spreadsheets. I actually forgot the measuring cups on my order hence the syringe.... That chart is nice and very similar to how I've set up dosage charts in the past. I appreciate it. I have just been doing the math in my head or using a calculator but it...

Yes. My first batch I mixed at exactly 1% MEKP... That took 3 hours to kick off. My subsequent batches I mixed at more like 1.2% and I was still getting almost 45 minutes working time before it started to even gel. I understand I can go hotter but being a noob, I prefer the longer working time...

    Building engine mounts

For inline engines it is typically ply or lumber fitted to the bottom of the hull to build a flat pad. I am assuming you mean the 3.7l inline 4 mercruiser? This is pretty typical of most I've come across and this is my own personal boat if gutted... you can see the inline mount in the bottom of...

So I learned a little yesterday. First, even with the garage at 70 degrees it takes a couple hours for the poly to kick off. Second, inside the bubble I can keep it at 80 easily... I will be doing that for speed of layup. At any rate, the transom is adhered to the skin. Shown above is the test...

    Easiest Conversion

A 3.0l pushed around my boat for nearly 40 years. It'll do it. But if it was marginal with the 170 it'll be worse with the 3.0l. I had a good running 470 I was going to swap in against my better judgment and then wised up and went with a 4.3l. It took a while to plane. Once it got up you were...

    My 84 4winns horizon 195 project.

Probably all I'm going to do this weekend. Got the transom laminated so I can cut it. It dried just slightly warped... if you throw a straight edge across it it proud by maybe 1/16 in the middle. I figure I'll put that side out and let the clamps pull it flat when I bed it to the transom. I'll...

Picked up my order today. Dad's home from surgery so I had some time to get out... Not my best strap work... but we made it. I'll also add. The off white tint for the gelcoat is reasonably close. I just want the bilge to look close enough lol.

    Anyone else notice...

Large businesses, LLCs, whatever, buying up marinas nation wide? Our other boat is a 33' wellcraft coastal. We wet dock and dry dock at what was a reasonable marina and you were allowed to do your own work. Over the last couple years, a large company has been buying up any marina worth buying...

While I'm thinking about it... I have some old holes in the transom that are no longer used that I'd like to seal up... would over drilling them to say 1/4 inch and just doing a marine-tex plug be sufficient. They are screws that the heads broke off of from the PO. They have marine tex over them...

    Control replacement/update opinions

Oh no. 46 MPH with the new 4.3. 3.0 did an absolute best of 37 MPH typically 34 MPH. There is a square pivot pin with pinch bolts on the gimbal, the pin rounds over time causing play. Though I suspect most of it is the 40 year old rack....

    Control replacement/update opinions

I realized it was a problem the first time I stood on it in a chop with the 4.3l (first time it did 46 MPH) and I almost immediately backed down on the throttle... Was not pleasant to say the least lol. Figure most of the time with the 3.0l was spent around 24 MPH... And I will be stripping...

10-4 on that. I'll proceed with the non NFB setup then. Thanks all!

    Control replacement/update opinions

It would address the free play I have, correct? The whole reason I am considering swapping it is I can turn the wheel almost a quarter turn with no movement out back on the steering arm or cable. I feel like this is excessive and should be like an eighth or less but I've been wrong before...

    Control replacement/update opinions

I do have a Mercruiser, I don't have power steering but rather just a full manual rack without assist. I have the anode adjusted so I don't have the torque steer underway or anything, only when accelerating to get on plane... Basically you only feel it when it is digging out of the hole and the...

    Control replacement/update opinions

Good Morning everyone, While I have the boat torn down I plan on going through and replacing all my control cables and was just looking for feedback on if what I am looking at sounds right. For control, I have an original 84 Quicksilver control box, side panel mount, which I believe is from...

So, I'm working tomorrow today and yesterday again. Original plan was to get jamming on Monday but dad is officially having surgery so I have to take him for that. My plan was to pick up the US composite order and get the transom templated and possibly the ply laminated but that'll have to wait...

Easiest engine drop in replacement for 1986 MCM 470

I don't have that much to add but... While I didn't do an identical swap, I did do a 3.0l to a 4.3l. Make damn sure you have enough room for the mounts between the stringers... 24" minimum and even at that, it is tight.
