Re: Need help with transom repair w/pics Went down to the plastics supplier and bought a sheet of 1/8" Lexan. Took my old scratchy and cracked windshield and made a template of it out of heavy paper. Tried real hard not to let the paper fall into the curve of the windshield but kept it pretty...

Re: Need help with transom repair w/pics Hey Ed .... You are right about Woodonglass he has given me excellent advice throughout my project as well as a lot of others on iboats. As for that stuff I have no clue what that is. I posted photos and asked if anyone knew what it was and didn't get...

Re: Need help with transom repair w/pics Sorry for all the questions but I am trying to figure this all out and have answers before I go out and do the work. I had to cut the cap to get to the transom and, as you can see in the photos, the cap has pulled away from the hull. I am planning on...

Re: Need help with transom repair w/pics I need to add one last layer of CSM to the keel and I went out and sanded it a little today and I noticed that it has some low spots along the side of the keel on the hull. I marked them in red in the photo. Do I need to fill these in now before the last...

Re: Need help with transom repair w/pics Thanks Hydra, and yes the Citristrip is on the shelf at Lowes. Sometimes its nice to take a break from the fiberglass and work on these little things that need done. This is what I used on the control box after stripping it:

Re: Need help with transom repair w/pics Well, the resin came last night and I have all but the last layer on the keel. I need to get some wax for the final layer and then I can flip her back over. Everything looks good so far. Finally delivered the new steering system. Not even thinking...

Crack in hull after first launch

Re: Crack in hull after first launch I flipped my boat to clean up the hull and prepare it for painting when I saw two patches from the PO that looked bad so I hit the first one with the grinder to remove it and when I did my keel appeared to be hollow. I removed the second one and it looked...

Re: Need help with transom repair w/pics I am kind of idle waiting for an order of resin to come so I started stripping my control box. It had a lot of chips on it so I decided to paint it. I am using a stripper called "Citristrip" which I saw someone using in another thread and it seems to be...

Re: Need help with transom repair w/pics I am going to fillet around the keel with PB so the csm and 1708 will lay down nice. Some of the glue expanded out the sides of the keel. I am going to sand it before I fillet. How much of this needs to be sanded out? If there is some of this glue...

Re: Need help with transom repair w/pics Well, no turning back now ... the keel is officially Gorilla Glued in. It went pretty well with no problems and I sure like working with the glue instead of the fumes from the PB. I think the bottle of glue said to leave the clamps on for 1 to 2 hours...

Re: Need help with transom repair w/pics Yes CW ....that is a rotted keel that you are looking at and the aluminum stringers were bolted to what I thought was the hull of the boat but after I dug out all that rot I found that there were carriage bolts thru the keel into the hull and bolted to...

Re: Need help with transom repair w/pics If it wasn't for that old patch looking so nasty I probably would have never checked it. I have metal stringers in the boat and they are bolted thru the keel and as you can see in the pic, there wasn't very much holdng them in place. In fact a couple of...

Re: Need help with transom repair w/pics Now that she is flipped I have a few questions. On the underside of the cap is a substance that looks like plaster.
