    Testing transom assembly for leaks

I pulled the engine back in November but did not start on the actual replacement work until the middle of March. I finished getting everything back together over Memorial Day weekend. If your a DYI type of person who doesn't mind getting dirty, I can't say it's actually difficult, it just...

    Testing transom assembly for leaks

Did my leak test on Saturday and no leaks! Hurrah! Now I need to finish tidying up the bilge and getting cables anchored and such. Also need to get the engine drop in scheduled. Here are some pics of where things started and ended so far. The board I used as replacement is Coosa Bluewater 26.

    Testing transom assembly for leaks

I had to replace wood in the transom because of rot. I've battled the leak since we bought the boat in 2020 and since I have an acquaintance I have to pester to remove and install the engine with his boom truck, I don't want to find out there is something else going on so that's why I want to...

    Testing transom assembly for leaks

Thanks. I may not worry about the pump and just hold the outdrive up with a ratchet strap as I said earlier because I'll have to pull the drive right back off to put the engine in

    Testing transom assembly for leaks

Yeah, I'll have the entire assembly put together including the exhaust. I'll try to put the battery in place and see if that works. Thanks

    Testing transom assembly for leaks

I am getting toward the end of my transom rebuild and want to test the transom assembly for leaks before I drop the engine in place. My idea is to mount the outdrive and use a ratchet strap attached to the transom eye bolts to hold it up while we drive the boat to the ramp (batteries will not...

Should I fill voids in gelcoat before reinstalling transom assembly

I an in the process of repairing a transom leak and one of the things I may need to deal with are some voids that apparently wore into the gelcoat over time from the transom assembly. You can see at the bottom of the picture, the gelcoat has completely worn away down to the fiberglass. I'm...

MC-1 (aka Pre-Alpha) Gimbal Ring Replacement

I know there are kits sold for Alphas and Bravos to cut access holes in the gimbal housing. I'm not sure for pre-alphas. The kit I've used is 22-88847A1. This requires drilling two holes on the side of the housing where the tiller arm is. I know there are other kits that involve cutting the...

Looking for tips and tricks for installing Bravo transom assembly

Thanks. The silicon suggestion sounds great to keep the holes in the fiberglass transom from filling with epoxy.

Looking for tips and tricks for installing Bravo transom assembly

Thanks for the info. I removed the rotted wood from the inside leaving the outside of the transom untouched so I can use that as a guide for drilling and cutting the new transom boards. Since I'm using Coosa, I won't have to worry about wood rot.

Looking for tips and tricks for installing Bravo transom assembly

I'm in the process of repairing a transom assembly leak which includes of course replacing rotted plywood (I'm going with some Coosa board). Anyway, in preparation of re-installing the transom assembly, I was hoping to pick up on some tips and/or tricks from the good folks here. I figure it's...

    Transom assembly rebuild

I know I'm late to the thread here but wanted to mention something about the cheaper stainless steel swivel pins you find on amazon and e-bay. When I did mine, I talked with the owner of the company where I purchased my swivel pin who actually makes them. His are heat treated and according to...

Question about installing new clutch/gear set in 1999 Bravo 3

Just to post an update, I was able to get a hold of new-old-stock of the original bearing assembly (31-86763A2) for the pinion gear and it worked perfectly. The assembly date on the bearing assembly was 2008 so I know that bearing assembly was in use when the original 2001-17 bulletin came out...
