Question about installing new clutch/gear set in 1999 Bravo 3

Ok, I have another question (probably silly) regarding torque. When installing the u-joint assembly, the manual says 200 lb/ft. The thing that is throwing me is the chart used to calculate the torque setting. It shows the torque settings rising as the length of the torque wrench increases...

Help with trailer rear bearing replacement

As dwco5051 stated, the seal should be flush with the hub. There will be a gap between the seal and the inner bearing. As far as seal diameter goes, you want the seal to ride on area "B" in dcwo5051's drawing. Like RMClark said, the seal needs to fit onto that spot with a little effort...

Question about installing new clutch/gear set in 1999 Bravo 3

Thanks. That is basically what the manual is saying to use then because it says use a torque wrench with a dial indicator on it.

Question about installing new clutch/gear set in 1999 Bravo 3

Please forgive me if this is a stupid question, but is a rolling torque wrench a torque wrench with a dial indicator?

Question about installing new clutch/gear set in 1999 Bravo 3

Thanks for the suggestion. I do have service manual 28 as well in PDF form. I see there's a slight difference in the gear set assembly instructions as there does not appear to be a thrust race in the newer set. I think I'm good as far as the gear set goes. I still have a concern when it...

Question about installing new clutch/gear set in 1999 Bravo 3

Thanks for the info but I don't think I did a good job of asking my question. The 2001-17 bulletin does mention new thrust bearing shim races are required based on the thickness of the original shim races. The original shim races in my case are .091 thick and the bulletin indicates that I will...

Question about installing new clutch/gear set in 1999 Bravo 3

I have found a post on another website stating the original timken race part number 28621 can be used with the new bearing assembly which removes the need for the shim. Does this sound right? I also have found the superseded set part number 86763A2. Does anyone know if that set will work on...

Question about installing new clutch/gear set in 1999 Bravo 3

My serial number is 0L440964. I have service manual number 11. I have determined I need gear set kit 43-883473A3. I counted the teeth on the gears and the main gears have 32 teeth and the pinion has 27. I am also planning on ordering the bearing assembly 8M0103472. On mercruiserparts.com...

Replace cone clutch 1999 Bravo III

Don't know. I also don't know anything about the quality of the SEI drives so I think I would rather fix what I have. I have a mechanic friend who is checking to see if he has the MerCruiser tools so I can do it myself.

Is there a way to tell the gear ratio of the outdrive without opening it up?

Replace cone clutch 1999 Bravo III

Thanks. I just found the 2001-17 bulletin that apparently tells me the parts as well.

Replace cone clutch 1999 Bravo III

I have read enough to know the 1999 cone clutches are not available because MerCruiser upgraded them which requires a whole new gear set as well. I'm just getting into the investigation point of doing this. Is there by chance a decent list of parts and tools needed to accomplish this? The...

    Dumb-dumbs at the Dock . . .

Fishing around boat ramps always annoys me because fishing line getting wrapped up in an outboard or I/O acts like a razor to the seals in the lower unit.

    '99 MerCruiser MPI surging question

Here's an update. I did find some information on testing a TPS with a multimeter. I did that and everything looked good. No dead spots or voltage spikes. Fortunately, our neighbors' (they're farmers) mechanic works on boats so he stopped by and took a look. He put a fuel pressure gauge on...

    Ease of towing larger boat

We tow our 26 foot Formula with a 2017 F-150. Before that, I was pulling a Sea Ray 268 Sundancer with the same truck. The only thing I had to add were air springs since those boats squat the truck pretty good. We've always towed our boats mainly because we have a nice big pole barn to keep...

    Trailer brake system opinions

I have had good luck with surge brakes with the caveat that the equipment is in good shape. On my last boat trailer (1987), I put a new master cylinder on it along with the shocks in the hitch assembly to absorb the movement of the hitch. I also put new brake lines in place. None of this was...
