    Buying a fishing boat

Now your cookin with gas!!!! You will like that 4 cyl Merc. I never owned one, but I've had plenty of them troll pass me, they are smooth as silk. And I think the power tilt that is actually part of the motor is far better. Looks like a pretty fair price. I'd be driving down to see that one...

    Buying a fishing boat

That's a really nice looking rig! Those Evinrude/Johnson 25 h.p. outboards were pretty bomb proof as well. If you go look at it and are interested in buying, make sure to go to a lake and take a spin to make sure everything works and the boat doesn't gush water.

    Buying a fishing boat

Heh another Minnesotan! Welcome! The first post, the john boat with the 15 hp Johnson. Looks like a nice well kept little rig. That Johnson is a sweet little motor even as old as it is. If you get in any kind of chop that john boat will ride very hard and that will get old. Unless you plan...

    First boat buyer questions

Not sure what brands of aluminum boats you have in that neck of the woods but maybe look for a 18 foot aluminum boat like a Lund Tyee, or Crestliner, or Alumacraft fish and ski type of boat.

    First boat buyer questions

Sounds like your at opposite ends of the spectrum on your boat choices. Trust me, you won't want to spend a whole day on a 14 foot boat. 1989 is getting a bit old for a glass boat. You'll want to be on the lookout for rotten transom, stringers, floor, etc. unless the boat was verifiably kept...

    Volvo Penta 4.3

What year is the boat/motor? Is this carbureted or EFI? I'm guessing when you had the plugs out and cranked over the motor, you didn't get any water spraying out of the spark plug holes. If the motor was hydrolocked you would have had a lot of water spraying out of some or all of the spark...

Boat and Trailer Titling and Registration in Minnesota.

You will also need registration on the boat. If you do not get a title for the trailer you will be able to re-title it. If there is no manufacturers name on the trailer, then title it as home made.

    Steel Caps or Bearing Buddys?

BBs are great, but there are two very key things to successful use and years of not having to repack bearings. A. Don't over grease the BB and compromise the grease seal. B. A high quality grease seal is paramount. Double lip with spring reinforcement is the only way to go. Anything less and...

    Boat won’t start

When you crank the engine using the key, does the engine roll over a full 360 degrees freely? If not, remove all the spark plugs, crank the engine and see if you get any water spraying out of the spark plug holes. If you are getting water spray out of the spark plug holes you might either have...

Looking for a light, all around anchor

How about a Fluke style with a slip ring. If it gets really stuck you can pull the anchor out backwards. They are pretty light too. I have one for my 20 Lund Tyee I.O,

3.0 mercruiser ran for 5 min good. Then Just died?

Dumb question but, are you sure you have enough fuel in the tank? Is the bow of the boat sitting lower than the stern? This happened to me when I traded my last boat. We had it on the lake the night before we traded it in just to make sure it ran perfectly and to burn some fuel, there was a...

3.0 mercruiser ran for 5 min good. Then Just died?

A mechanical fuel pump can fail very quickly. Back in the day we had a 86 Chevy Blazer, 5.0 V-8, carbureted with mechanical fuel pump on the block. It literally went from running perfectly to barely running at all in the span of a few miles. In my case, the lever that runs off the cam and...

Need gas cap for 1994 Larson SEI 174

Larson boats is very much in business. They are currently owned by Polaris. https://www.larsonfx.com/en-us/ The factory was located by Little Falls Minnesota since the beginning I think. Lately I believe they moved the factory to somewhere in Wisconsin. The bow rider type boat market was...

    wiring diagram

Look at your trolling motor batteries. If one cable going to the trolling motor comes from the positive post on one battery, and if the other cable going to the trolling motor comes from the negative post on the other battery, and there is a short jumper wire going from the positive post on one...

    1st boat incoming. Dumb question

I'm guessing you are referring to the starting battery? Personally, I never touch mine. If I think about it come spring and approaching the first start up I might put a charger on it for a few days but that's about it. This summer I think I've had the boat out 5 maybe 6 times and it starts...

Found a snake skin in the boat. Now what?

No, really, BURN IT! I would never set foot in that boat again. The only good snake is the one that's doing about 50 mph out the side chute of my John Deere tractor.
