    4.3 Mercruiser fuel supply issue

Just letting me know the cover pops off helped. The diagrams in the book aren’t much help. Thanks. Motor hot now. Will tie what I can out of the way and lay down in there again after it cools some.

    4.3 Mercruiser fuel supply issue

It’s a 4.3. coolant lines, oil, lines, fuel tank, fill, and vent hoses all in the way the fuel line from the filter crosses under the motor and comes up behind that motor mount and goes into something covered by a black plastic box. After seeing that, I decided to load it on a trailer and take...

    4.3 Mercruiser fuel supply issue

Decided to dig into it. There is supposed to be a fuel pump here somewhere. That may be it behind the motor mount. Can’t see what holds it. Some days I believe the only good engineer is a dead engineer. There ought to be a law that requires them to service what they design.

    4.3 Mercruiser fuel supply issue

I hesitate to leave the hatch open while running wide open across the lake so I can read the gauge. Hatch removal is a PITA in the shop let alone in a slip. It pretty much has to be losing pressure. The symptoms are the same as a clogged fuel filter. Let it set when it is primed or pump the...

    4.3 Mercruiser fuel supply issue

Serial number 2A496785. Yes fuel pressure should be quite a bit higher. Have a Volvo Penta that is hard to start cold because of low fuel pressure (I think).

    4.3 Mercruiser fuel supply issue

Working one that started out as a “won’t start” on the lake but checked good at the dock after it was towed evolve into “won’t start” after fuel filter change. I installed a primer bulb and it started fine after pumping it up. Power starts dropping off after a minute or so and eventually gets to...

    Yamaha F150 overhauls?

thanks guys, I will look into these. I don’t think a short block is enough. The kickback was hard enough to remove the flywheel nut and ruin the seal on the cam that did not break the pulley. I haven’t looked but I half expect valve/piston contact and bent push rods in the top end with cam...

2018 Mercury 150 EFI hard to start hot

That was the second thing I tried before asking even though it usually runs like crap when the IAC needs cleaned. For some reason, of the 3 motors like this I care for, this is the only one that ever gives me trouble with the IAC getting dirty. The first thing I did was change the fuel filter...

    Yamaha F150 overhauls?

Are there any known good shops rebuilding Yamaha F150 power heads? Had a rental take a hit from behind hard enough to lockup a cam and strip the belt. One or two outings after changing the belt, the pulley on the other cam broke creating a kickback hard enough to remove the flywheel nut and take...

2018 Mercury 150 EFI hard to start hot

Motor has been running great and starts easy cold but go for a restart after it is warmed up and it repeatedly fires and dies. I don’t see anything in the service manual covering the issue. It can be started by giving it a little throttle but something isn’t right for that to be a requirement...

    Fuel use meter?

I just went to the Mercury website to take an other look at vessel view. They aren’t too keen on selling their products. They require a person to register just to get information. What a crock!

    Fuel use meter?

About a third of the boats have FlowScan but most have quit and parts and system support became questionable when the company changed hands a few years ago. It looks like they have a new system out. If the fuel use can be retrieved on a NMEA 2000 compatible unit then some of the boats are...

    Fuel use meter?

I should have mentioned this is for a rental fleet. Using a fuel gauge doesn’t work because the tank sizes range from 30-45 gallons and the deckhands are clueless about what each boat will hold. We have Volvo Penta, Mercury, Mercruiser. Yamaha and Suzuki. More than one of each. I considered...

    Fuel use meter?

I need some way, other than leaving full and refilling when I return, to find out how much fuel is used on each outing. I know about FloScan and it is a nice, across the board fix but it is a little pricey for me. It seems to me that with everything on the modern engines being computer...

    Any lower unit experts?

I have made that recommendation myself. Someone else recommended the plastic props. The owner won’t budge because stainless looks good. Even pointing out the savings and the fact each lower unit usually puts a boat out of service for a couple of months didn’t make a difference. I am returning a...

    Any lower unit experts?

Yeah, rentals get abused. What got me was the lack of external damage. I actually had a maintenance complaint this summer about one boat not shifting into reverse while traveling forward about 15 mph  Maybe that dumbxxx got this one to shift.

    Any lower unit experts?

The bearings all appear to be where they should be from what I can see. Chewed up some of course. The big bearing in the rear housing is seized. I can’t see any gaps in the rollers. I also thought about incorrect shimming but the timing bothers me for that unless I missed some serious...

    Any lower unit experts?

I recovered about 36 ounces from the drain pan. Book calls for 38.7 ounces. I spilled some when draining the lower unit and I hadn’t let it drain completely before I opened it up. My guess is it was properly serviced.

    Any lower unit experts?

Last oil change was at 1131 hours so I am going to say that was the first oil change had at least 100 hours on it. This year’s manager was very bad about letting me know things were due. He let a couple of boats go over 170 hours between oil changes and he wasn’t checking levels. I didn’t...

    Any lower unit experts?

The engine is on a 23 foot tritoon and has about 1130 hours on it. The lower unit was changed because it was seriously damaged (skeg broken off, stainless steel prop nearly unrepairable on a severely bent shaft). I was told it hit a submerged tree at cruise power. I think the new lower unit has...
