1968 Evinrude 6hp - Gearcase Seal - Marred Prop Seal Housing

Sierra 18-2023 it's supposed to be the equivalent of OMC 313282. My brother has a 59 10hp parts motor. I noticed one of the websites I use for parts lookup has the prop housing part number for my '68 (382291), noted beside the prop housing part number for his '59 (277812), not sure if they...

1968 Evinrude 6hp - Gearcase Seal - Marred Prop Seal Housing

I filed down the high of the marring. The new seal installs ALMOST all the way by hand and (with some wiggling) comes back out by hand.

1968 Evinrude 6hp - Gearcase Seal - Marred Prop Seal Housing

I did the ID of the housing with the 3M 847. What would be the difference with the Loctite 243?

1968 Evinrude 6hp - Gearcase Seal - Marred Prop Seal Housing

Around where the prop pin goes, no I didn't. Though it came of without me having to hammer it off the prop shaft.

1968 Evinrude 6hp - Gearcase Seal - Marred Prop Seal Housing

Hey all, So I'm not REALLY experienced with gearcase resealing, this is only my second one I've had to complete. I had a leak at the shift rod on the gearcase of this '68 6hp, so I just ordered a new gearcase reseal kit from sierra and redid all of the seals. Well, while removing the prop shaft...

    1960 Evinrude Fastwin Stutter

Does the seal sit in the roller bearing? Whatever the seal is sitting in, it appears to be cracked around the edges.

    1960 Evinrude Fastwin Stutter

It is. Was covered in silicone. Looks like it'll need a new one. Was difficult to get good pictures.

    1960 Evinrude Fastwin Stutter

Yeah. I don't really like it, there's some sealant goop in there. Was thinking of maybe just tearing it all apart over the winter and fixing it back up.

    1960 Evinrude Fastwin Stutter

Well it was a 3.5hr drive for our holidays but got it to the lake to give it a go and it wouldn't start no matter what. Didn't change anything between the barrel run and the lake. Was definitely getting gas. Checked spark and THOUGHT I had spark on top, didn't on the bottom. Didn't have too many...

The different prop seal is in the 18-2679 kit.

    1968 Evinrude 6hp - 6802C - Gearcase Seal Kit

Well I can tell you this. The driveshaft seal is stamped 300599, which is superseded by part 327031. The prop shaft seal is stamped 313282. The seal kit parts are noted in the photos below. 18-2680: 18-2681:

    1968 Evinrude 6hp - 6802C - Gearcase Seal Kit

Thanks racerone. The difference is actually the driveshaft seal which is 300599 --> 327031, the proper Sierra kit is 18-2680. Hope this helps save someone some time in the future.

    1968 Evinrude 6hp - 6802C - Gearcase Seal Kit

I'm ASSUMING that it would be equivalent to Sierra Part 18-2680, as the note for this part indicates it fits 1967-1968, but ONLY "S" suffix for 1967 motors.

    1968 Evinrude 6hp - 6802C - Gearcase Seal Kit

This little motor appears to be ALL original from what I can tell and the story from the individual I purchased it from would go along with the condition of the motor. It's in terrific condition. I'd be VERY surprised to find something on this one that wasn't original. That being said, its a...

    Quit on the Water!

This is the video I originally found and used as a base: Last Christmas I got a new multimeter that includes an audible noise to indicate continuity. This allows me to focus completely on the timing marks on the flywheel as I rotate it and I know exactly where it is in relation to the marks on...

    1968 Evinrude 6hp - 6802C - Gearcase Seal Kit

Can anyone confirm the part number for the gearcase Seal Kit for this motor? When looking up online looks like there were a number of different kits for the 68 depending on the model suffix and I haven't been able to find definitive info online regarding the "C" suffix in the specific model I...
