    1970 4hp Johnson low compression

Pretty much what I did. When the motor kicked in it actually felt pretty healthy, like my other good one.

    1970 4hp Johnson low compression

The description says only if it has a 2 port pump, I only see one hole for this pump. Only tester I had. My feeling is that it is the fuel pump, while it was running nothing came out. I tried a rebuild years ago, just took it apart. I don't have a parts layout to by, but things looked ok. I can...

    1970 4hp Johnson low compression

New gasket on, head clean, not warped, only came up to 50psi. My checker might not be the best. Cleaned carb, was clean. Set the points, they were good. Took it out, sputter, sputter, then it slowly kicked in felt good for 10 seconds, died. I pulled off the fuel pump hose, nothing coming out...

    1970 Johnson 9.5 Gas Efficiency

I have read about people putting a 15hp carb on a 9.5 which makes it a 15hp (don't know if that is true) but is the high speed jet the only difference? Any idea what size it should be for 9.5 and 15?

    1970 Johnson 9.5 Gas Efficiency

I think I put a new diaphragm in a few years back. And I do love the engine, it pushes the 12 ft aluminum along well. But I guess you guys just confirmed the fact that it a gas guzzler. Thanks

    1970 Johnson 9.5 Gas Efficiency

This summer with Gas Prices so crazy I decided to run my Johnson 4hp on my 12 ft Aluminum instead of the 9.5 (both 1970). I was startled at how efficient the the 4hp is compared to the 9.5 which I always thought used way too much gas, but ran well. And yes I realize the size difference, just...

    1970 4hp Johnson low compression

Hi folks, I have 2, 1970 4hp Johnsons. One runs great. The other seems to have low compression. 25-30 each cylinder. I put some oil in the cylinders and it came up a tiny bit, 33. I am trying this with throttle wide open, choke off. I'm wondering if the rings might be stuck so I am spraying PB...

    1970 Johnson 4hp Carb jet mix-up

Hi folks, Took apart my 4hp Johnson'd carb to clean as it has never run right and started to think maybe the jets are swapped, then I got confused which one was where... One is a nice taper, other is more like a needle. Thanks

    70 Johnson 9.5 points?

You're right Crosbyman. I filled down the bump and pitted sides and tried it out. Ran great! But new points/condensers are most certainly in need and on order. Thanks for the support, good motivator.

    70 Johnson 9.5 points?

This morning I decided to take the suspicious points out and have a better look. OMG, worst looking points I have ever seen. One side is a deep pit and the other a size DD. picts don't do them justice.

    70 Johnson 9.5 points?

I always drain it at the end of the season and run a bit of marvel mystery oil in it, but indeed I will clean the LS needle.
