    88 Merc 20hp, chirp when killing engine

    Hi folks, This season I overheated, replaced the impeller, then the head cover gasket which sprung a leak after the impeller was replaced. It has been running well. But sometimes when I hit the kill button I hear a chirp. Doesn't sound healthy, sharp and and fairly loud. Any ideas? -ugmold

    Re: 88 Merc 20hp, need to remove tilit pin to raise Found the answer as I was installing a new impeller, the shift shaft#26 needs to go thru an rod reverse hook#19 2nd schematic that works as release, a washer sits on a detent and actuates the claw that holds the tilt pin. It had no washer before.
