Looking to replace the points with an electric ignition

Why do you want to replace the points? Are they not working correctly. Actually quite easy and cheap to replace them which should be done every couple of years if not every year and they make for a quite reliable and user serviceable system

    Starting point for idling/performance troubleshooting

First off, what is the engine serial number? This will give those with the resources available a chance to look up specifics on the engine. Second, how long have you owned it and what is the maintenance history and how long have the problems been occurring? I would start with checking the tach...

Maybe someone else knows, but I wonder if the intake will be well suited for the larger displacement. Or maybe they all use the same one? Edit just looked it up and part numbers appear to be the same

how to lift new 5.7 motor with edelbrock manifold

Just put a 5.7 with aluminum manifold in this spring using carb plate mount. Had all the front accessories on but no exhaust manifolds. Did a 4.3 a couple years ago but it had cast iron intake. Volvo Penta SX - water leak help

The video is not sufficient to diagnose. Run it on muffs again and if it still leaks it has to be the raw water inlet. If it doesn't leak, and you already pulled the drive and found no water in the bellows, it could be the trim sender grommet or the transom plate. Back it in the water, not...

Temp gauge Mercruiser 3.0 not working

Do you know if there is actually have a thermostat in there? Gauges, especially at lower temps are not terribly accurate. They are pretty much designed to be "close" at the operating temp and are more of a guide. Put an IR temp gun on the engine block, thermostat housing and exhaust manifolds...

    1994 MerCruiser 7.4L / Bravo 3 26' Envision

I would say that engine/drive combo is very reliable with good maintenance. A carbureted big block is very simple if you have some knowledge. Bravo drive is very dependable. Obviously, make sure no water is getting in oil, all cylinders firing, runs smoothly throughout rev range, no leaks, etc...
