Re: Shift Cable Issues
Here are the measurements and pictures.
The first picture is the plate with the shift cable as far as it will go in reverse,
The second picture is far as it will go in forward. Both pics are with the remote cable disconnected.
Third picture is where the cable was when...
1984 Alpha One, 3.0 Liter Mercruiser
I cannot get into reverse. The OD is off and I can see the cable in the housing bottoming out in neutral so I know that is why I cannot get into reverse.
The OD shift cable moves freely from forward to reverse.
The travel of the cable from the shifter...
Re: 1984 19' Islander Coming Back to Life
Also managed a little time away from the boat as well. All i could think about was launching the boat, a little disturbing on this hunt.
After some extensive and tedious removal of transom, decking, wiring, seats, cuddy, and FOAM, I am starting to put the pieces back together. I cannot believe the work I got myself into. I started a thread in the Starcraft Forum but I am looking for some larger responses to a few things as I put...
Before I pulled the OD I had two stainless plates in the bellows. Then upon disconnecting the motor to replace the transom I noticed this in the picture. Is this where the exhaust shutters are? Are the two small stainless plates I removed the shutters? They had holes drilled in them.

I have removed the engine, OD and Bell Housing to replace the transom.
Should I be replacing all bellows and gimbal bearing?
Will the specialty tools be required if I have the bell housing off the boat?
Re: Islander Transom and Decking Replacement
Transom Progress. HD had AC plywood cheaper than BC. So I bought a few sheets. Screwed two together, placed the old on for a template, cut the big sections with a skill saw and the finer detail with a jig saw. Time to Epoxy.
Re: Islander Transom and Decking Replacement
Foam, Foam, foam, and more foam, then I found more foam, foam, foam!!!! FOAM, FOAm, FOam, Foam, foam, I think I,m losing my foam!!!
Re: Islander Transom and Decking Replacement
Here's a pic of me fitting a 10-gallon boat ina 5-gallon garage. Its in there though. Tight fit, but its dry and warm. Had to remove the windshield to make it fit, but it was well worth the effort and time to get it into the garage.
Re: Islander Transom and Decking Replacement
Is there a specific kit for gaskets, impeller, etc... for the OD.
It is a 3.0 L Mercruiser with Alpha One hanging off the back.
I'll get the junkies started with a couple pics in a bit. Here's a teaser to start with, pre-demolition.
I am starting this thread here in means to share my experience and soak up the experience from all here. I am in the process of replacing the decking, foam and the transom on my 1984 Islander and am starting to come up with a bunch of questions. I've tried putting them in the approprate forums...
OK, I have it stripped. Down to the motor and OD removal. All wiring and 27-yrs of add-ons removed from the transom.
Two Questions: I will be using (2) sheets of 3/4-inch plywood for the new transom.
1. How do I seal in between the sheets?
2. What should I be using to seal all the plywood...
1984 Starcraft Islander. 3.0 L with Alpha One.
I am in the process of demolition of the decking and transom. I am removing the motor and outdrive.
Can I get some recommendations on parts to order for the reassembly. Gasket kits, alignment tool, etc...??
In my search for a new or rebuilt starter I ran across this, or these, on ebay. They are all over Ebay and very inexpensive. I cannot rebuild for this price.
Any experiences out there with these advertised starters...
I found this in my search for different types of coatings.

Does anyone have any experience with this or similar products on a wood deck? I will be replacing my deck with resin coated plywood and am looking for something to put over it.
I have two King Autopilot systems. One in the box and one on the boat. I would like to get rid of both but am not sure if they have any value. Both are older and use a Gyro sensor wired to a steering mechanism. It basically adjusts the wheel to maintain a heading that was locked in.
Can anyone...
OK, my scupper idea is a "wash", but I still want to install the Washdown system. I have nothing now for a washdown.
What are the recommendations for the access to the sea water?
I also want to install a future livewell, should I put this into consideration with the washdown?
Boat is a 1984...
