When I bought the boat last year the outdrive was corroded so I painted it up and installed a new anode. It corroded again, prop, gear case and rams. I checked continuity between everything on the water side and it was all connected so I cleaned the bottom paint off the hull around the outdrive...
When towing a rider I'm used to running about 3000 rpm at 20 mph, at least that's what the gauges read. The last few times out when going the same speed the tach was at about 3800 and at WOT I seem to be getting 5200 rpm, usually it tops out at 4800. At an idle it seems to be the same as usual...
First time out after dewinterization. It started immediately after filling the float bowl and idled nicely. Didn't notice anything until after 3,000 rpm when it began to miss slightly and intermittently. It didn't get past 4,000 rpm either. All the plugs look good, the fuel had stabilizer, the...
The manual indicates to drain the exhaust manifold using the petcock at the back of the manifold on the bottom. I see another brass plug in the bottom of the riser as shown in the photo. Does this need to be opened to fully drain the exhaust for winter?
Changed the oil and started it up to fog the engine. While warming it up at about 1400 rpm it suddenly started running rough and was blowing blue smoke out the exhaust. Shut it down and pulled the plugs to fog the cylinders. All of the plugs were black and dry. Could valve seals suddenly leak...
I replaced the cracked reservior tank and filled it with 10W-30. I have no idea what fluid was in it to start with. I've operated it several times but the fluid still goes creamy when operated then it clears up within 15-30 minutes of sitting. Initially I thought it was just air bubbles coming...
Is it normal for these engines to shudder briefly when shifting from drive to neutral? Should it be brought to the dealer's attention when it's winterized. Also, it sometimes runs on after the ignition is turned off. WTH, it's brand new this year.
My neighbor's boat has a tach that rotates backwards to about 4,000 rpm regardless of speed. It goes back to zero when idling too. I know it's under warranty but that means pulling it out of the water and trailering an hour, leaving it, etc., etc.

Took the flywheel off by removing the eight bolts instead of a flywheel puller now I'm not sure that I put it back on the same way it came off. May be a bolt or two either way. Is there a way to check without getting a .464 dial indicator and measuring from TDC?
I searched the forum but didn't find much on high oil pressure. The oil pressure gauge is electric and no numbers on the lines so I don't know how high the pressure is measuring. At idle and warm up it was reading where it always does then when I accelerated running 3k-4K rpm the oil pressure...
I read that the outdrive should be left in the full down position during a layup to avoid setting the bellows. Why do my neighbors always leave their outdrives in the full up (trailer) position while in the water during the week? Doesn't that put unnecessary stress on the bellows and risk...
I've got intermittent spark all of a sudden on 2, 4 and 6. Seems to have started right after the boat took a jump off a wave. Could the switch box be causing that? 1, 3 and 5 seem to have steady spark. Is there any way to test it besides switching the the switch boxes?
I've read various posts about using RV antifreeze to winterize the engine but I also read it doesn't contain corrosion inhibitors. Wouldn't it be better to use automotive antifreeze then drain and flush in the spring?
Can someone tell me how to reassemble the recoil starter. The pawls are not coming out to engage the flywheel. I replaced the little spring on the pawl retainer plate and it holds the plate back with the pawls retracted. Is it only centrifugal force that overcomes the retainer plate spring...
The starter had an issue a few weeks ago so I lubed the bendix shaft. Today it worked fine all afternoon then it wouldn't engage with the flywheel. Can they become siezed to the shaft? Does the entire assembly on the shaft including the collar with the dog ears slide up the shaft when starting?
What's the cold starting procedure for this engine? It doesn't have choke flaps on the carbs but an enrichment valve and "push to choke" on the key. I need to put the throttle right down as far as it will go to get it started then after it's been running it starts easily afterwards.
Serial 7007134.The rod at the front that's connected to the tilt lock, how do you line that up with the plastic piece on the shift rod on the lower unit? Does the drive shaft need to be greased? It doesn't look like stainless and it's rusting.
