    I think if i can rule out the heads then ill finall know its the block..Ill check the heads if there shot then ill get new ones and if still a leak then ill know its the block. If the heads check out ill know its the block. That sound about right?

    Heads were checked and serviced by machine shop. He didnt check for leaks bec he thought they were fine by inspecting visually. Im going to do a pressure check under water tis weekend .

    ok just did pr trest with plastic over dipstick hole and distributor hole with soapy water and no bubbles.. Buuut did soapy water down all 4 oil drain holes on heads and there IS air from all of them which now makes me think the heads are cracked. idk how would air be escaping from those oil...

    Good thought. Only one head gasket on starboard side was blown and the corresponding valves were tuliped. No obvious anomalies on the port side head or gasket. Of course that doesn't mean it didn't cause something internally in theat head. I'm going to put plastic cling wrap over distributor...

    The big question is .... is the air coming from the head into the oil drain port ( would have to be a crack in both heads in the exact exhaust port , no?) OR Is the air coming from the galley( no obvious cracks visible)/ bottom end of engine meaning block is cracked? or am I missing...

    Im betting since that its both heads in the same spot (if you set them side by side its the same spot) its probably the block.?? Big mystery to me is why only air coming from those two oil drain holes in the heads and not all of them

    Head gasket orientation for 4.3 Vortec

    Appreciate the advice No indication of Top, bottom or left or right. It seemed more intuitive to put flatter side on the block , it had the metal corners down too. Why do they put the extra metal on one side? Seems like itd be for a reason?

    When pressurized with 15 psi, there is air coming out of the oil drain hole in back of head that when i put finger over it the sound changes and definitely air coming from there and also just discovered the same air sound coming from front starboard side oil drain hole in head

    all cylinders within 5% in compression. gauge said 150-155. Cheap Napa gauge. so its prob not that high. would a leak down help at this point to further rule out or pinpoint the issue?

    I pressure tested an am hearing a leak that seems like in rear port side head . I'm trying to narrow down the problem. If possible. Nothing from intake manifold or dip stick does this indicate the head is cracked?
