Well I have some bad news to report. About 30minutes in the oil pressure dropped suddenly to about 5 psi. I was able to idle back to port so that was good. I suspect I spent a rod bearing do to a light knocking sound on the way back. I'll update when I get a chance to pull the pan for some...

As far as outdrive paint goes, would rustoleum rattle can work or is there something in particular I should use? It looked pretty good when I got it but the degreaser I used to clean everything up took off all of the shine, now its all dull and dingy looking.

The Mercruiser Manual actually shows a hand inside of the housing holding the pinion nut. LMFAO... Not a chance in hell I was fitting my hands in there.

    1968 StarCraft Holiday restoration

Well, this was quite the process. I am glad I did it because I now have a complete understanding of the outdrive and will make future repairs and maintenance a breeze. That said, it was not an easy task. There are definitely a couple more specialty tools I will acquire before doing this job...

I so badly wanted this thing to be 100% complete before splashing but I just cant miss any more opportunities out on the water. Looks like paint will have to wait until fall. I finishes all of the loose ends with the electrical system, put all the chrome back on, finished the gas tank install...

    1965 Starcraft Holiday Restomod

Luckily Mercruiser wiring is pretty standardized. The 1968 wiring harness that was original was very close if not identical to the 1986 motor and new wiring system. the wiring color scheme seems pretty consistent. The only issues I had were with some of the colors that have faded over the years...

    1968 StarCraft Holiday restoration

yeah, I went ahead and bought almost all the specialty tools. honestly the worst parts were the retainer nuts that the previous person tried to remove with either an axe or sledge. I at least always give thing the old college try before breaking out the heavy equipment LOL..

    1968 StarCraft Holiday restoration

Didn't take many pictures of the process but I managed to completely teardown the outdrive the other night. I wasn't sure what to expect because there was quite a bit of corrosion on the cases but for the most part everything looked really good. Going to replace 2 bearings due to some light...
