    Rolling boat over

FWIW - here are some pictures of rolling my sailboat over of working on the bottom. As the saying goes . . . "Don't try this at home . . . "

2000 Sea Ray 190 CC Hull Soft Spot

The boat is 23 years old . . . the hull appears to be solid according to the 'hammer' test. If the hull was that bad off, you would have thought it would have sunk by now. Mechanics are not necessarily experts on boat hulls and boat construction (right?) If you are really concerned, then have...

    Rolling boat over

I flipped my 19' sailboat over (1400 lbs) using some straps and rollers supported from my garage ceiling. It got to the point of no return and then suddenly flipped the rest of the way all al once (not recommended). But there are a variety of ways to do it. The key thing is to support the...

2000 Sea Ray 190 CC Hull Soft Spot

@Friscoboater has a fairly extensive thread on restoring his 1997 (ish) SeaRay of similar size. So, take a look at his thread (search for it) and you will learn more about the construction. 2000 model years may still be wood. I would also verify the 'soft spot', as it appears to be in the...

What does wood free hull actual mean

As time goes on there is less wood in boats. Some manufacturers went wood-free a while ago, but that is not to say that all manufacturers don't use wood. For those that do use wood they use a rot-resistant wood known as 'KDAT'. Common product names are 'Greenwood XL' and 'Perma Panel'. The...

Looking for a larger boat that I can trailer

In my recent boat search, I looked at the Donzi ZSF and the Intrepids. Towing aside, The helm position is significantly far to the stern of the boat, which some folks may not like from a handling perspective around docks, etc. Since you had a center console boat, you may not mind the layout...

    Check those wheel bearings . . .

Yes, I have the 5,200 lb rated axles (not the 5,600 as I stated previously) Total gross capacity of the trailer is 15,600 . . . net about 14,600 lbs. I'm taking the boat out on Sept 29th, but won't have time to do the R&R on the bearing until afterwards. As is, it should survive the 2 mile...

    Check those wheel bearings . . .

Found some more marine grease . . . Aahhh Phooey !!! o_O . Lots of brown grease came out of the hub. So, this will be on the off-season list for replacement. For now I pumped grease until I got clean grease coming out. Will be checking the other wheels, but this one was the only...

    Check those wheel bearings . . .

Thanks for the links . . . I'll have to pump more grease into that one bearing to see what I get out. Just got to buy a couple more tubes of grease :D

    Check those wheel bearings . . .

Thanks, @Lou C I had not considered the cotter pin, but it makes perfect sense. (y) I believe these spindles may be the Super-Lube (Tie Down) brand/style, but the concept is the same. I've put a fair amount of grease in each wheel (25 pumps) but not sure how much grease I should be see coming...

    Check those wheel bearings . . .

Doing a little research on the axle/spindles . . . they are E-Z lube style, but I'm not sure they are 'E-Z Lube' brand (if that is a thing). The reason being is that everything I see about E-Z Lube online has the grease fitting centered in the spindle. These fittings are off-center in the...

8.1 GXI-J Cranks but No Start w/ Diacom Logs

Just thinking about the head bolt . . . You've had this boat/engine for 4 years, so it must be something that happened recently. Otherwise, it probably would have manifested itself long ago. So, what are your next steps?

No compression with rocker arms torqued

Yup, the manual says to torque to 40 ft-lbs. You might want to try setting to zero lash and then go 1 turn on the problem cylinders, to see how that compares. How far past zero-lash are you having to tighten to reach the 40 lbs?

No compression with rocker arms torqued

I would double-check the procedure . . . I may have a service manual that covers the Gen 5 454. Typically you tighten the rocker arm to zero lash and then go about 1/2- 3/4 turn. IIRC, on the Mark 4 it was a full turn past zero-lash.
