    Gimbal bearing puller

Does anyone have a dimension dwg of the stud pattern in the bellhousing? I bought the swiveling bearing removal tool plus some 5/8" fine threaded rod, making the steel to go across the bell housing.... boat is 5 hr drive away and I just stocked up on outdrive gaskets was hoping to avoid buying...

Upper and Lower Drain Plug Merc Sterndrive Alpha 1 Gen 1 Question

No running on the muffs will not show if any of the oil seals are leaking water into the gear case. Only way to tell is to take drive off , drain, and pressure test. There is a ton of info in the stickies and threads here on how to build a pressure tester and run the test.

    Another Winterization Thread!

Depending on the exact set up it may be self draining. My merc drains with out any issue, but some of them have a trap in the cooling hose

Yes if you have two RH props then no counter rotation. You should be good to go with the spare lower you have.

being duals is one counter rotation? I could be confusing things for you, but not sure on an alpha if the counter rotation is done in the lower. Edit - SEI makes a separate lower for CR -https://www.sterndrive.cc/product/Fits-Mercruiser-Gen-I-Lower-C-R-8951A33.html So if the cracked lower is...

Upper and Lower Drain Plug Merc Sterndrive Alpha 1 Gen 1 Question

Yes each one takes a gasket they sometimes can stick in the housing. I think the OEM merc ones are yellow now but they used to be blue fiber paper ones back in the day. without a gasket you will get water in the gear oil

    3.0 L mercruiser issue

Probably have multiple things going on. When it dies and will not restart does it have spark? Check with inexpensive spark gap tester. Fuel tank vent could be plugged, fuel system is definitely contaminated likely tank lines and carb need to be cleaned, but I would think that would not allow...

    What oil should I use?

Exactly my similar vintage 3.0 had same cap on valve cover but merc documentation recommended straight 30 w or 40 w depending on ambient temps

    5.0 oil weight and amount

Would not think so unless you have a very odd situation with stringers

Do the supercharger rebuild by the hours , my neighbors friend has same ski asked him about it if he had rebuilt the supercharger he said no seemed fine … he is now replacing his engine .., Defiantly would look if you are missing spark on a cylinder and replace the plugs Have found a cheap...

Got a new toy to test out eventually...

I got best results with a revolution 4 vs a Enertia. Enertia is a very good prop but might not be best for every application. Would think even with bottom of the V is in a good spot

Got a new toy to test out eventually...

you can trim the annode with a grinder or get the flat one. Very common for props to hit them other than basic Black Max Al ones

Does the antifreeze you use really matter?

You are not wrong there are only 2 drain plugs on the 4 cylinder. IF you have power steering you may need to pop a hose off the PS cooler if it traps water. I'm not far south of you in upstate NY and do as mentioned - drain fully, I use about a gallon to splash back into the hoses to chase any...

U-joint Bellows & Upper Shift Shaft Bushing

Agreed that bushing and seal assy is pressed in the bellhousing lightly. On the bellows adhesive - only put it on the areas where the bellows and lip on transom housing fit together just a light coating on the lip around the gimbal bearing and inside of the bellows where it seals on the lip...

    I have a leak.

Sounds doubtful at best. I would be looking that the bellows are not leaking depending on position of the drive L/R & Up/Dn , or there is another leak in the cooling system Have you looked at the driveshaft bellows closely ?

    Bellows Installation

Yeah the newer style push on hoses are pretty cool, no clamps required . I use them a lot at work ( in larger sizes) to make air and water hoses on site with no end crimping tools.
