    Mercruiser 4.3 Prop Question

Also check the tach vs a shop tach. Would not think if you had soooo much pitch that wot was 3800 that you would have the great holeshot that you mentioned. either rpms are off or there is a tune up issue have you verified timing both intial and total? and what do the plugs look like

    Bravo 3 Refresh Questions

Look closely at the corrosion a buddy of mine had to replace his lower housing as it cracked by bearing carrier due to corrosion. I think the later ones had two annodes on the cav plate vs the original single one. Ultimately he ended up putting a second mercathode system on it with transom...

the push rod is moving ?? I understand the valve is closed but the pushrod should not be moving down unless the lifter is collapsed or lifter is not on the cam fully, or is the pushrod not seated against the lifter? Is this the same for all rockers? No milling the head for warpage would not...

Outside lower unit will not go up

Not owners manual get the mercruiser shop manuals for your engine and drive serial numbers. If you post the serial numbers people here can confirm which manuals to get. I got mine used off ebay invaluable if you plan to work on your boat

Change it annually with a good quality oil and filter and you will be ok, engine will outlive the boat. Check the oil level before use and it will outlive the boat. Winterize it properly by draining and it will outlive the boat... you get the idea... You didn't say what year the engine is im...

Rebuild old mechanical Fuel pump or go for Electric Fuel pump

Stick with the mechanical pump if you need to replace it. By the time you buy an electric pump, replumb it, properly wire it through an oil pressure switch /relay I can see it being a savings... unless the original pump and or kit for it is not available. Definetly do some diagnostics before...

    153 head on a 181

If I recall around 1990-91 the head changed. We had a 1991 sea ray ( engine was a 1990 build with one of the last gen one drives), it was offered with a couple different hp options of the 3.0. Ours was the 3.0LX with 135 hp. Also belive there was a 115 or 120 hp version . Thought I read...

    5.0 oil weight and amount

Dont over think it - no issue with quicksilver. I think the last time I looked for one the long filter was like 2x an aftermarket one. Quicksilver is the same parts as Mercury/Mercruiser, but labeled quicksilver so they can sell outside their dealer network.. so OEM quality part

what should I check for buying an old mecruiser boat

condition of transom and stringers first, likely on a boat that old the wood structure is rotted. Compression should be 150 when new - this shows some wear on the engine. Watch what oil pressure is when engine is hot. You need 10psi per 1000 rpm of engine speed for it to be in good shape. Look...
