    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Thanks @SHSU. Kinda learned the hard way last time with dry vs cure when I did the bottom and flipped it too soon. Lost a little paint on the side where the boat slid up the trailer first, and where the bow hits the bow stop. Friend winched it in too fast n tight. I read that curing take...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

First coat of white on! Took a minute to get a rhythm going again but all turned out pretty well. Tomorrow, second coat of white. Then we will see how long til the white accepts tape so i can do the blue. If youve been following along, then you may notice i switched up the paint scheme...

1975 Starcraft SS 16' Freshen Up

My mounting holes were the highest ones possible, and my gap was less than that. My cavitation plate? (fins) were perfectly set at the bottom of my hull too. Pics are poor but you can see it. You would need to drop your motor down and use the next hole up which would also lessen that gap on...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Wefco came through with the rub rail today! Just in time. Yesterday I picked up and ordered some remaining pieces needed for the “finish”. Also sanded the rest of the boat down to prepare it for primer. This afternoon, I washed, sprayed with vinegar water, and wiped down the boat. Let it...

    Factory made holes in keel?

Paint probably wont keep it “water tight” since the strakes werent put on with a sealer. Mine were sealed with coat-it, the holes plugged, and water still got in. Plus im in a freezing climate so thats why I added a rear hole at the lowest drain point - wanted it completely dry. Leave em open...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Slowly chipping away at the final list. Tomorrow I will do a store run for the “remaining” pieces. Always will be 1 more thing... lol. Hoping to have her prepped, cleaned, taped, and primed too. Last 2 days ive been putting spar on the casting deck and console fronts when i have time. PO...

    Factory made holes in keel?

@iCraft'77 The ones in the front are factory. Mine had been covered by the PO as well so I opened them back up. In freezing climates you dont want water trapped in there. Had the same thought about the rear and I drilled holes to drain the rear too. Quite a bit of water came out actually.

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Sounds good @SHSU I will leave as is and paint over it as well. Worst comes to worst its just a pita to remove lol, but not impossible. Another baby step today... Putty and 5200 wasnt quite dry, so cut out my console fronts that separate the consoles from the front deck. PO only had the top...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Thanks for the refresh @Michigan Lakes . Thats exactly what I was trying to remember lol. Wish I would have just done coat-it now instead of 5200, but it may not flex enough. I really just need to protect the seam right under the motor where gas/oil would settle. I will also keep it nice...

Beginner beginning a complete restoration - Starcraft 18

If you want a CC it would be a lot easier to start with a mariner or supersport. Will take a ton of extra work to reinforce everything so the desired build is stable. Id remove everything carefully and at least resell, instead of hack apart a nice holiday. Once its at its bare hull you can...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Hmmmm. Ok... then how about clear seal-all over 5200? Or will paint over 5200 protect against gas/oil leaks in the splashwell? 5200 is already sealing the sw edges. I remember reading that 5200 isnt gas/oil resistant. Thats my concern.

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Baby steps... a step a day keeps the summer blues away. Ended up putting in the splashwell drain tubes today. Lathered em up plenty good with 5200, and will seal extra good with coat-it afterwards. Hope I dont have to tear her apart for a long time.... shes going to be sealed up tight...

Beginner beginning a complete restoration - Starcraft 18

Welcome! Definitely pay the mob dues when you get home 😁. Sounds like you have a fun project. Its leaking like mine was before I started my rehab. I had plugged mine with blind rivets over the summer and was making due before my winter tear down plan, but lost one whole rivet and almost sank...

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Didnt get a whole lot done this weekend with everything going on. Still got an afternoon in today at least. Cut bigger cupholders into the consoles per the admirals request. Last holes were cut with a hack saw so these went in nice with a proper hole saw. Also cut the spot for the gas tank...

    1975 Starcraft ss18 restoration

Only thought on the 70 was that it runs and Ive heard of the older mercs wiring issues. If you have time n money by all means get that merc running on it. Sounds like you will be tearing through her top to bottom anyway. Guys in the starmada mob will be your best resource for the rebuild...

I will have to look up those non-skid poly beads. I was looking at options and dont want to do sand. May cut some hydroturf for a small step pad. Or when the fishing rails get put on they have removable non-slip inserts as well. Thanks for the intel.
