Changing outdrive on my inline 6 165 HP.

the MC1 , Alpha drives are light enough if you tweak the trailer front up or down you can get it so the skeg is on the ground. Put a board or plywood down and you can take the weight off it

yeah depending on how much thread is left this will be an option. Worst case you may have to put a thread insert in. f you grease gun is like mine the tip has an adjustment for how tight it hangs on to the zerk

Another gear oil thread... 80w-90 vs. 90

they do have additives that are supposed to make it still lubricate in the presence of water. You can use automotive gear lube which also works fine except when it got water in it. I used to use Mobil 1 75w90 in my sea do jet pump instead of the OEM lube. If definitely was less tolerant to water...

Changing outdrive on my inline 6 165 HP.

Likely one of gaskets is wrong in pump install water should be coming up. I can’t imagine that yeh impeller blades could block the flow but might be worth bumping the starter to move the impeller and see if water comes up. Only time I’ve seen that is when an Impeller blade broke off and closed...

Changing outdrive on my inline 6 165 HP.

There are o rings on the shaft that seal to gimbal bearing and ther can be a build up of grease on the splines and in the coupler that can make it hard to seat the last bit. Did u have it in forward both drive and shifter when you put it back on ? That makes the shift shoe line up. Drive needs...

Run Merc 3.0LX on external fuel tank

Depends on what you find when you empty the tank. Empty all the contents. When I have this with old cars and rusty steel tanks I have used my vacuum extractor to suck it out, put it in covered 5 gal buckets And let it settle out. in my case I let the rust and Schmeg settle, sucked of the top...

Run Merc 3.0LX on external fuel tank

Plumb the external tank into existing fuel filter (change the filter). before putting on the rebuilt carb purge fuel line from new tank to carb into a jar, make sure the fuel is clean. Could also take a sample off fuel on on carb before you change fuel tanks by pumping into a jar see if there...

What reason causes the water leaking into gimbal bearing house?

that may be , not sure how the water flow is occurring in your scenario? can you describe the part is called an oil seal the video below references the service bulletin about 9 min mark that states grease seal is not needed using the non greaseable bearing, and it is not installed in later...

What reason causes the water leaking into gimbal bearing house?

More likely the seal in the shift shaft in the first pic. There is a seal below the top lever. unless the cable is leaking probably not the cable side Either way the quad ring will keep it out of bellows

What reason causes the water leaking into gimbal bearing house?

That seal is to keep gimbal bearing grease out of the bilge not bilge water out as there is a small bellows drain hole in transom. This seal is not used with newer permalube bearings. Bilge water if very over full can get water in bellows. To the OP it doesn't look like the gasket (Quad ring)...

Mercruiser 5.7 EFI Water in Oil

Yes do both if one is bad. if the heads need to come off I would have a machine shop check them out for straightness (block as well). Have them look through the heads do a valve job if needed and replace seals. Likely they will be ok unless warped but you never know. Check cam and lifters...

Another gear oil thread... 80w-90 vs. 90

Yeah not my favorite place but I do get motor oil etc there. There are other places like the local marina but certainly not a ton of spots. I do think the local advanced auto or auto zone may have them too You will likely be fine running 80W-90. I do think amongst marine gear lubes a straight...

Mercruiser 5.7 EFI Water in Oil

you could do a cold compression test to see if head gaskets hold. Yes a decent over heat its common to split a head gasket, should see it on a comp test. If you ID low cylinder(s) you could do a leakdown on them to pinpoint source of compression loss. The bolt torque for vortec intakes is...
