    Project Boat

If it's "pristine" and "functioning", why would it need a new motor

    Project Boat

An electric trolling motor is easily adapted with the right bracket and some ingenuity. I take it that your boat is a cuddy though, so a bow mounted troller isn't going to be ideal to use. A transom mount electric is almost worthless (been there, done that). Regarding the other issues, with...

    Steering Wheel for Tiller Boat?

To judge dimensions you need to take a picture from the back, with the camera level with the keel and AV plate. The proper position is so that both are level +- an inch or so. Higher to have better speed and lower to prevent ventilation...

    Steering Wheel for Tiller Boat?

Well, I dunno, but based on the videos the planing ability doesn't look too bad to me. The hole shot looks like what I would expect, and I would be happy with it. Yours is a relatively light boat and should perform very well with that HP. Now, don't expect whiplash like Jimmbo's I/O, but both...

    Steering Wheel for Tiller Boat?

You didn't tell us any of that before. Maybe the root of your problem is the engine. If it's not performing at capacity, maybe that's the reason why you have planing problems. An 80% failure rate would also cause me great concern. The 14' Starcraft below carries a 25 HP 2-stroke, a 6.5 gal...

    Steering Wheel for Tiller Boat?

With proper prop optimization, "most" boats with reasonable HP can improve their hole shot.

    Steering Wheel for Tiller Boat?

My Yamaha "jetski" DOES have brakes of a sort. I can be going 50 mph and get her to completely stop in about 30 feet. But that's a jet drive. Not going to do that so easily with a prop. Today, ALL outboard motors and I/O throttle controls are equipped with a "deadman's switch". In NY state...

    Steering Wheel for Tiller Boat?

Back in the day we used a 14' wooden boat with only 25 HP to pull a skiier. If I could only have 1, it would be a glass boat as well. The AV plate breakage is usually due to improper installation or using it as a step.

    Steering Wheel for Tiller Boat?

Back in the day we all had wooden boats. They were light and had good buoyancy. We ran them with small motors, because that's all we needed. Water-ski, fishing, etc - they all did that. We didn't have any Joneses so there was nobody to beat. The marine architects designed them for...

    Steering Wheel for Tiller Boat?

Your motor is set up for cable and pulley steering. You could probably adapt some sort of bracket for the more modern single cable but it may not be easy. Most cable / pully systems run down both sides of the boat, but they can be adapted to a single side for a side console. Regardless, you...

    Steering Wheel for Tiller Boat?

My library of catalogs shows a part number of 388088, or Michigan match 012013. I don't know why the numbers are different, but I suspect one superseded the other. All moot points. If you are happy with your modified solas, that's all that matters. The specs indicate that pitch is what you...

    Steering Wheel for Tiller Boat?

Had nothing pressing this afternoon, so I googled. For an Evinrude 18 HP, 1957 - 1973, Michigan makes 9"+- 3-blade aluminum props in 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 pitches. A couple were limited production, but the others were original OEM replacements. I only looked up a couple, but several online...

    Steering Wheel for Tiller Boat?

No problem with a console, per se'. It's just that a little boat like that has limited space in the first place, and adding one would make moving around more cumbersome. My Sea Nymph is about the same size as yours and I'm quite sure I would't be happy adding more stuff. (just my opinion) I...

    Steering Wheel for Tiller Boat?

If you think the gas tank would be in your way, adding a console of any kind would be even worse. Michigan wheel carries a complete line of Evinrude props for motors going way back to the 1950's. All different sizes available. Every boat should be tached out for the right prop. Planing...

    Grease on rims

There's your answer. You blew out a seal, or you simply filled up the end of the axle with grease and now its leaking past the dust cap.

    Grease on rims

In the past 3 years have you serviced the bearings? If so, how much grease did you add? I think it would be unlikely that an un-serviced unit would leak. Leaks usually are due to bad seals.

    Steering Wheel for Tiller Boat?

I have had 2 tinnies just like yours. In fact I still have one of them. I can only give you MHO based on real experience. First of all, adding a wheel isn't feasible. Several reasons. You will need to add a side console and it will take up valuable space. Pus the necessary cables will...

    Grease on rims

I dunno know about caps. Looks like lack of maintenance to me. If I had a leak I would see it right away. That looks like months of dirt and not trying to figure out why.

    Lowrance Elite 12 ti2 issue

The video just showed a rattle, not the unit installed and operating. My wonder was if the noise had caused it to not function.

Why did it need to be repaired? Did you try it to see if it worked?
