The new trailer winch stand looks good. Now I have to get it painted up. :sneaky: One thing I have to figure out is how to adjust the jack plate down. I can't tilt the engine down fully to do the job, because the engine is too low.

I just picked up the boat from my buddy's house and it's back home safe! In addition to the new starter, I'll also need to get the trolling motor installed before I'm willing to take the boat out on the water.

    Yep, it's a parts motor.

Yup, I have mine on my parts motor right now. Convenient is definitely the word!

 The rectifier converts the AC produced by the engine and changes it to DC (theoretically) to charge the battery and also provides pulses for the tachometer. On this engine, the OEM units are very expensive, so I'll be checking into aftermarket products which are still pretty pricey.

Dunno about the wheel puller. 🤷‍♂️ I bought the Mercury wheel puller tool for about 20 bucks from Amazon. It was worth it right away. Works great.

Cool! I still need to adjust the jack plate height in addition to getting a new starter. Plus, the PO told me that the rectifiers are bad, so I'll need to replace those as well. I may take the boat onto the water before replacing the rectifiers. Maybe. 😜

I just got this from my buddy. Sounds good to me! 😃 The engine definitely needs a new starter. I'll be ordering one soon. The trailer is also finished, so the boat is ready for pickup. I'll still need to deal with gauges and whatnot. :sneaky:

Just a quick update. My neighbor bud has been working on the boat when he can and has made good progress, albeit taking a long time. I did notice that the big orange Kubota tractor is gone though. 😄

My neighbor buddy got started on the boat this evening. :D The boat is in one of the 5 bays of his shop area. I really like his big yellow floor jack! The boat is sharing space with a Kubota tractor he's restoring.

Yeah, I really like the way the boat sits on the trailer and how it's easy for me to see through my back windshield, straight through the center window on the boat. The boat tows well as it is, so I'll just keep it like that right now. And those trailer tires are brand new. The PO had...

We got the cleanup done, but not the trolling motor installation. It's going over to my buddy's house this morning as is, so that he can get started on the steering and engine rigging. We'll install the TM once I get the boat back. Ground clearance will be "interesting" once the engine is...

I bought the extra bolts this morning and the L-brackets are now fully torqued and secure. Next step is a major cleanup followed by installing the trolling motor.

It's on. Finally. Well, mostly. 🙃 I have to buy a couple more bolts to fasten the L-brackets to the knee braces, but everything's secure on the transom and jack plate. :sneaky:

88 Mercury 45/50 hp Classic 2 Stroke help!

My advice is to just go ahead and get the service manual. I've purchased them from ebay for about 50 bucks. My most recent was only $35. That's like a couple lunches at a fast food place. And they can be resold if you get to a point where you don't need them. But, be sure to get an OEM...
