4.5L Water in Oil, Bent Valve, O2 Hydrolock

Welcome to iBoats . . . This is the engine (right?) . . CAT Exhaust and basically no riser. If it is raw water cooled (red labels) and not the SeaCore version (blue labels), then it could be early mortality of the exhaust manifolds from the salt water. But . . . they are usually a bit more...

    Cylinders wont fire.

OK - that speaks to seeing/feeling air come out of the intake (vs. suction only). So, I would be checking the valves (valve covers removed) to see if they are moving. See where that leads . . . and go from there.

    Burned boat and insurance offer

Well, lawyers aren't free . . . If you can substantiate the fair market value of your boat, then that would be what you want to go back to the insurance company with. As the others, have said, don't just take what they initially offer, as it is probably a very low estimate of the value.

    1995 Luhrs 290 Tournament open Stringer/bulkhead recoreing

. This looks to be a major stringer? Or maybe it is a bulkhead. You would not be filling this with seacast since there are no sidewalls . . . if I'm seeing this correctly.

    1995 Luhrs 290 Tournament open Stringer/bulkhead recoreing

It looks like you may need to build some sections of stringer in its entirety while other sections might be more easily filled with seacast.

Make note of any large hatches or areas of the cockpit sole that look like they can be removed. Cutting should be a last resort.

    496 bravo 3 3000 RPM plus overheat

You could try some 'descaler' solution in through the raw water side and let it sit overnight. It only takes a couple of years in salt water to block many of the tubes within the heat exchanger. This might be easier than disassembling things. I run a descaler every other year, just to try to...

2001 Doral 330 SE cabin table

Greetings and welcome to iBoats . . . There are aftermarket tables that may suit your needs. (Google RV/boat replacement table top) Since Doral is OOB, getting original items may be challenging.

    My new boat

Yes, I find the SC gauges pretty useless. Most of the info I get is from the Vessel-View display.

    My new boat

Yes, if you have CATs, then fresh water is OK . . . if in salted water . . . then you really need the full closed cooling system option (Merc SeaCore, and whatever it is called in V-P speak). So far, I have more issues with the smartcraft stuff than the CATs. No issues with the CAT's on my...

    My new boat

Good job ! (y) I assume the 350 MAG is standard exhaust (No CATs)? Fuel injected, right? If/when the engine gets fussy, be ready

Exhaust flapper fell down in the exhaust tube

Google "mechanics grabber claw tool" as those have stronger ends to pull the flapper remains out. What engine is this, as we will want to move the thread to the appropriate engine section of the forum? (Mercruiser/Alpha One)?

    Mercruiser 3.0 Ticking Sound

Greetings . . . I don't hear much of a ticking sound from the video. It would be good to use a mechanics stethoscope to further isolate the sound. Often it is a valve lifter/rocker, but not always. No need to tear into the engine at this point.

    1995 Luhrs 290 Tournament open Stringer/bulkhead recoreing

Greetings @RBMSA1 and welcome to iBoats . . . It sounds like you have a project on your hands. Yes - Pictures ( and quite a few along the way) would be helpful for responses as we will be able to 'see' what you are seeing. Restoration wisdom is that the rot usually goes a lot further than it...

    Quit My Job . . .

Just marking a milestone . . . It has been a year since I gave notice at my full-time job, finishing up July 1, 2022. Last summer was awesome and basically a few months to decompress after 45 years of the working world. Quite a few folks have left my prior organization since then, as things...
