2011 Tahoe Mer 4.3 - engine miss firing

@alldodge may have some ideas but would suspect that measuring fuel pressure is probably a decent next step

2011 Tahoe Mer 4.3 - engine miss firing

I would start with what do the plugs look like and what does contents of fuel filter have in it? Is this carbed or injected? When it miss fires check the spark with spark gap tester, if carbed look down carb and pump throttle to see if there is any gas in carb coming out of accelerator pump

    Alpha one gen 2

these guys sell remans I believe. https://www.sterndrives.com/mercruisersterndrives.html Confirm the ratio of the drive before ordering yours is most likely a 1.62:1. Thes guys sell the aftermarket SEI drives that many folks use (about $2100) and OEM new drives ($3600)...

Need to determine best prop for weird setup

Yes the Innova timing light will do both tach and timing functions. This goes over checking total advance total timing is at 6:53

6.2 MPI Whine noise when revs

Had the same thing on my old boat a few years back- ran fine when winterized, made a similar noise when back in in the spring. Gimbal bearing was bad, had some water in bellows , bearing gets corroded while it sits. U joint could do the same thing. Did you have a lot of water in the bilge at...

Need to determine best prop for weird setup

You will need an advance timing light. I have an old Craftsman with a dial on it, you can put in the advance on the dial and it should time with the TDC mark on the balancer. Just looking for total degrees of advance, with out advance engine will not make power Some more modern timing lights...

Alpha One Gen 2 prop shaft seal replacement

So I am about to get the boat in the water. Given the new bearings in the drive - is a break in recommended? I re used the gears just new bearings and seals.

Need to determine best prop for weird setup

weather you swap uppers or props verify the tach is accurate. Also would do a sanity check on ignition timing and engine tune up (carb/fuel system/ignition components). Check total ignition advance at like 2800 should be 24-28 degrees or so. Not saying this is the root cause but not getting...

Pull the drive check u joints and gimbal bearing did u have water in bellows over the winter ?

Hard plane after switch from points ignition

What is the total timing advance you get at 2800 rpm? Would focus on matching that to what your engine had for timing curve from the factory

2006 MerCruiser 4.3 to MPI Swap

I think it depends on what harness is on the engine . It may have the standard 10 pin cannon plug that fits you boat harness. If it is the newer 14? Pin they make an adapter mercruiser adapter harness...

Need to determine best prop for weird setup

Have you verified the tach against a shop tach and the Speedo is that gps or the dash speedo? The factory water pressure Speedos are notoriously inaccurate

Bravo 3 loss of lube oil - slowly then rapidly x2

This is the truth always impressed with level of detail in their manuals, and they give complete transparency of what you need to do to service

    WOT

No issue going up to recommended WOT rpm . How long you leave it there is up to you. As others have mentioned I routinely go wot for fairly long spurts, they are designed to take that. You do want to make sure your prop pitch is correct in that the engine can get up to its wot range. This...

Need to determine best prop for weird setup

You would need a 13 or maybe 15” prop to get the rpms right When I repowered my boat with a larger engine, I kept the old higher numerically gear ratio drive and went up 2” in pitch and it works ( 1.81 drive vs 1.62). As mentioned above double check tune up Of engine. Would have expected 4”...

4.3 LX water in the oil...

On underside of thermostat housing /water cross over underside of intake There are no middle coolant runners this is an exhaust crossover to heat choke stoves and intake. So you are seeing exhaust soot

Rust in several Exhaust ports is sign water is getting into exhaust May be from head cracks Or exhaust system leaks Is there a crack in bottom of intake thermostat housing ?

Bravo 3 loss of lube oil - slowly then rapidly x2

As AD mentioned at one end of bellows is drive at other end is gimbal bearing there is a drain hole near gimbal that any gear oil or water that gets in there will leak into bilge. Conversely if the bilge gets really full of water it can also back fill the bellows Is it an easy job ? If you...
