    Anyone Seen these?

If you have an old 1950's 2-stroke that sucks gas like there is no tomorrow, and you replace it with a modern 4-stroke, then the upgrade is probably cost effective, depending on how much you go boating. If you buy a modern SS high performance Mercury Enertia prop (or others) and increase your...

    Anyone Seen these?

This has been discussed ad nauseium on other forums. The general consensus is its not cost effective. Regardless, actual production and sales have either not started yet, or are just starting. Only real customer data will tell the story. (personally, for 4 grand I would want my fuel...

    Duo boat question

The engine model and SN will be what you need to get engine parts. There are no oem parts available for a 48 year old boat. Things like seats, steering wheels, cleats, etc. are only available aftermarket.

Trying to decide between 3 older boats!

There's a reason why they don't make tri-hulls any more. Nobody was buying them. For a small lake they are fine. But in bigger waters with a lot of waves the ride will be very uncomfortable. Towers of power were iconic and loved by many. But they were a tinkerer's dream even when new. I...

Then go with a tinny powered by an OMC outboard.

Trying to decide between 3 older boats!

I'd be hard put to buy any of them. If I simply HAD to go with one because they were the only 3 left I would go with the Chris. Of course, contingent on a sea trial, inspection to verify its solid and hear the engine run. Regardless, if you don't have a whole lot of time to mess with...

Weight distribution on trailer bunks and rollers?

Four keel rollers for a 16 footer should be ideal. The ones that are missing the keel may have slipped down, or maybe weren't adjusted right in the first place. Nevertheless, eyeball the keel itself to be sure IT is straight. Although the bow roller should ideally be above the bow eye, if you...

Weight distribution on trailer bunks and rollers?

That wasn't what I meant. I added a full set of keel rollers and then adjusted the existing bunks as needed. As a matter of fact, the Owner's manual for my 2017 Boston Whaler specifies that for their boats.

    Identify this fuel tank?

OMC, Mercury and Yamaha all have 2 prong plugs that look quite similar. They are available from West, E-bay, etc. Just by looking I can't tell which ones you have. If it were me, I'd try to find some used ones to mix and match, and then simply tie the hoses together with a 3-way marine gas...

Weight distribution on trailer bunks and rollers?

There are 2 opinions in the matter. Old timers have one opinion and newbys and those that don't know better take the other side. My first boat trailer eons ago was a bunk / roller combo. As a matter of fact it was a "kit" trailer, sold unassembled by the OEM manufacturer. The instructions...

    Car Tires ok?

As I said above, a new trailer came from the factory with car tires. I guess the lawyer could then sue the trailer company. Regardless, when those tires wore out i DID replace them with STs, and after that the thing rode like crap. Maybe LTs are the best compromise, at the proper weight...

    100+ outboards

I had the same Seafarer and ran a 25 Yamaha 2-stroke on her, at 125 pounds. It was a very comfortable ride and the boat was certainly not overloaded. A current Mercury 25 4-stroke would be 32# heavier, which I personally don't think would be an issue. IMHO, the weight difference factors in a...

Jet Skiing on the Niagara River

We have been plying the Upper Niagara on 'skis for almost 30 years now. Not a problem. First of all, take a USPS safety course to learn how to operate it. Secondly, balancing is a natural act, and all riders must be in sinc. Learn how to work together. IMHO, a tether would be a potential...

Inherited Monkey Wards 12 foot Sea King

Boats are just boats and some are worth something and some are worth nothing. But a family heirloom is priceless. Google Fiberglassics.com and review the library. There is a link to Monky Ward Sea King. You have the model number, so a lookup should be easy. I can't read the numbers from...

I/O 18 ft. Does it sit too low in the stern?

Looks wrong to me. Either the engine is very big, or the boat is waterlogged. Compare the engine specs to what the boat should have. Then weigh the rig.

    100+ outboards

It just occurred to me that all these discussions may be moot points. With the govmnt controlling our lives, 2-strokes may very well be outlawed. It has happened already in some areas. But wait!, there's more.....If the current theme continues, ALL gas engines might go away. Hows about we...

    Tin Rig Tow Vehicle

It's a 1968 Lark Selectric. Most troublesome motor I ever owned. Traded it in on a Triumph and had similar shifting problems. Finally sold that one for a Johnson Stinger. THAT was the best 2-stroke I ever owned.

    Tin Rig Tow Vehicle

My first towcar was a 1961 Mercury Comet with a 144 cid 85 HP inline 6, 3 on the tree. The boat was only about maybe 1000#. Never had an issue with it.

It's a 1980 Bonneville. It is equipped with the factory towing package with most of the things you itemized. Factory specs list a 4500# towing capacity with the package.
