Yes if you checked timing and backfire would do a leakdown test . You also can just put compressed air into cylinders and see if it leaks back to intake.

Swap drives from one boat to another. How many day project?

I did mine 2 years ago, were 18 yrs old and not torn, they were starting to show chaffing on sides where they rub against gimbal but not leaking. Makes a case for oem parts we are up in Union springs on north end, lucky enough my grand parents had a cottage there since early 60’s.

Still using the 4.3 drive and transom so...

Non synthetic rotella for the older flat tappet engines. your R drive is close enough to an alpha gen one I would not bother to upgrade. The R/MR/Alpha gen one are basically the same drive with minor revisions. if you had an older MC1 I would do the upgrade. all the mc1 , r, Mr, and alpha gen...

    Best hitch protector?

Would agree with the above most of what I've seen in terms of hitch locks or the coupler locks used to keep a stored trailer from getting stolen are only good to keep the honest criminals at bay... very easy to break. Wouldn't over think it too much

Historically yes only available in odd pitches, some 4 blades were only available in even pitches (Michigan Votex 4 blade for example), so you would take a pitch one inch lower than the three blade and keep rpms up with the extra blade. Many of the high end SS props are now available in inch...
