Back for More! Looking into a bigger boat for big water - Deck or other

Guessing you’re up north? A 10 knot north or south wind in Mid-Bay (Sandy Point to Smith Point) would not be fun in a pontoon of any configuration.

NO insects or spring birds this year.

Pretty normal Spring here........wake up to a chorus of song birds every morning. Had coffee with Mrs Dingbat on the porch this morning. Heard the Great Horned Owls nesting in the pines outback talking back and forth. Had a couple of turkeys strutting their stuff in the back field. Had...

How thick is the floor pan? I've had great success using "gripserts" in a variety of sheet metal applications?

    Uflex hydraulic steering issue

The orings in hydraulic steering units are notorious for leaking when cold and or over time. While I doubt it’s the cause, using the cylinder to support yourself isn’t helping any

    PL-88 load adapter

Not necessarily…. Would have to sit down with a schematic to figure out how all components interface with the logic in the ECM. It will not start in gear. Not sure off the top of my head where or how the interlock is generated. With everything connected, does turning the key to the “on”...

What kind of damage from an I/O in salt water for 2-3 years?

Your being taken for a ride.......none of what you say aligns with the reality of being left in a slip for 2-3 years A boat sitting in a slip unused or 2-3 years would take a beating. The glass would be seriously oxidized by the sun. The hull would be covered in growth. Is the bottom painted...

    Brake woes

Had a meeting a couple of months ago with a large supplier of metals to the automotive industry. Had the heads of Management, Engineering, Operations and Quality sitting at the table. Given the demographics, a bunch greying guys, it didn't take long before subject of the lack of younger talent...

What kind of damage from an I/O in salt water for 2-3 years?

First off, year, make and model of the boat? The zero water in the bilge after 2-3 years is concerning...... Was the boat shrink wrapped in the water for 2-3 years? Self bailing cockpit? Even then, hard to believe there isn't some water in the bilge after sitting that lonfg I would...

    Brake woes

Most of that has to do with development and use of AHSS/UHSS steels that can be 2-3 times stronger than early materials. Steel now only needs to be 0.05” thick to provide the same strength as a 1/8” sheet.

    Critters in My Boat

Same here, but sometimes on a larger scale…found most of a rabbit in my daughter’s bedroom one afternoon. Opened the garage one morning to find the head (only) of groundhog laying on the drive. Bristol…….come get your head

    pulsating sound in stereo system

The picture of the wiring says it all. Audio equipment is very sensitive to ground loops and increased resistance in the wiring. All wiring on a boat needs to be done with marine rated wire and water proof connectors (crimps) to protect the integrity of the system.

    Son of a blow torch

Not worried about blood…it’s the Mycobacterium marinum infection that often goes along with it. Always have a bottle of hand sanitizer onboard to wash hands after handling fish Oldest daughter almost lost her toes from a similar accident when she was young.

    pulsating sound in stereo system

Did you swap the tower speakers with the subs to see if any of the tower speakers are blown? A shorted voice coil (blown speaker) can cause that. Two amps are going to burn a lot of power. Need an oversized, our separate battery to power the sound system Your symptoms point to a blown...

    Critters in My Boat

We have #150-#200 of horse grain stored in metal trash cans at any given time. Surprised we don’t have issues, but then again we have lots of rat and mice eating critters hanging around as well. Black rats snakes, red tail hawks and fox are frequently seen in and around the barns. Given...

    PL-88 load adapter

The minimum is 550 CCA, 250 rpm. The starter might be new but what about the battery and cables? Have you tested to see what you’re cranking at now? I’ve seen more than a couple of “new” components fail right out of the box over the years
