    Steel Caps or Bearing Buddys?

I agree. Two of my current trailers are EZ Lube, but the other 2 are not. So, on those I keep BBs. With all the force it takes to install them, and the fact that I have never lost one after 25+ years, I just wonder why some fall off. BTW, I only have used BB Brand, not the knockoffs.

    Prop Selection Advice

If you want a yami prop and know the part number, a cheaper price on ebay is of no concern. Its the same prop. There are aftermarket props, like Michigan Wheel, which are the same quality, but may be at a lower price. If the price s SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper, its used or damaged.

Can I run my Mercury outboard without gear oil?

Sorry to digress, but its a funny story. Last year in college I met a nice girlie who didn't ever have a car. For graduation her Dad bought her a brand new one. She told me she was going to be verrrry careful with maintenance, and would test everything. Last time I talked to her she was...

Can I run my Mercury outboard without gear oil?

I apologize if my comment was offensive. It's just my upbringing. My Dad did all the oil changes on his cars by himself and he taught me that good oil was important. At age 16, when I got my driver's licence, changing the oil was my responsibility. That same year Grandpa gave me his outboard...

    Steel Caps or Bearing Buddys?

I had 4 trailers. One was a tandem. I did as you did, pull them, grease, new rear seals, etc. every year. Then, I put those expensive buddies on all 10 wheels. Then I got lazy. A squirt every Fall to be sure the spring was in tension. No other maintenance. Got even lazier. Ten years...

Can I run my Mercury outboard without gear oil?

I can't believe I just read this question.

Looking for a light, all around anchor

LOLOL. In my personal unbiased opinion, the weight of the anchor is the controlling factor. My 19 footer runs a 9# anchor with a 4' chain, for a total of 13 pounds. It holds everywhere. You are proposing a 4# anchor with 10' of chain, for a total of 14 pounds. Looks like your back will...

    Anchors and Chains.-

My original anchor was a hook from a railroad car. Didn't look pretty but it worked. (Grandpa worked for the railroad). When I grew up I tried many types and ended up swearing by a Danforth type fluke anchor. It worked in EVERY situation. My favorite fishing spot is in the Saint Lawrence...

Transom adaptor from 15" to 20"?

I only had 2 oil injected engines in my lifetime. After the first I said never again. After the second I really mean it. I truly like power trim, but I don't really need electric start, assuming that the engine starts well.

Looking for a light, all around anchor

A 4 pounder on a 19 footer won't work in even the slightest wind or current. I don't understand why, but I have found that a fixed shaft Danforth works much better than a slip ring type. A few years ago I tried a Schene anchor and it worked quite well. But the chart vs. boat length / weight...

Install a kicker bracket for a 4.5hp Merc on Swim Platform (Bayliner 175)

I have heard good things about the new versions of electrics, as you state. Just never tried one personally. We fish lake Ontario for Salmon, out of Wilson or Olcott, NY. Lots of commercial guys here that guide for a living. I've never seen an electric in use. I imagine its a regional thing...

Install a kicker bracket for a 4.5hp Merc on Swim Platform (Bayliner 175)

It all depends on what you consider "trolling". If you are long lining with heavy rods and plugs, or if you are downrigging for deep water fish, a gas kicker is the only way to go. If you are moving around structure casting for bass an electric bow mount is needed. The Garelick bracket I...

    new mercury 60HP fuel connection

Yes, that's the valve you need and that's the way to hook it up.

Install a kicker bracket for a 4.5hp Merc on Swim Platform (Bayliner 175)

Bee there done that on both counts. My current SeaRay has a Panther fixed mount bracket right on top of the swim platform. Once in position I drilled 6 holes right thru the bottom of the platform. Six 5/16" SS threaded rods cut to length, bolted in with big washers and sealed with 5200...

Do older aluminum boats have the same issues with waterlogged foam?

I gave the boat to my son for his pond. The boat was always rolled over when not in use. The wood that rotted was the on the outside of the transom, just where the motor would mount. Obviously, the inside wood was not exposed and it is still like new.

Short shaft kicker for 20 inch transom

I have used Garelick mounts in the past, but prefer the much better designs of Panther. Also, the EZSteers are good mounts, but IMHO they are too low in the water to make installation easy when in the water. My preference is to make my own. Quite simple. 5/16" threaded SS rods, covered in...

    40hp 1980s Johnson Value

Its worth maybe $800, but only if it is a confirmed fresh water motor. If it saw salt water, its worth almost nothing. I'm speaking strictly about my area. Regardless, depending on where you live, you might be hard put to find someone to work on it. Parts are available, but not mechanics...

Do older aluminum boats have the same issues with waterlogged foam?

Transoms rot because the boats are sitting out in the elements. My tinny was pristine for 20+ years. Four years in the back yard and the transom was shot.

Just bought this pontoon from dealer, got home with no straps on back !

A safety chain will catch the boat as it is catapulting off the trailer. Just hope its strong enough. Better than nothing. A bow tie down will keep the boat on the trailer.

Just bought this pontoon from dealer, got home with no straps on back !

Don't show me any of those pics or videos. I couldn't take it! My personal story was standing at a red light waiting for the signal to change. It was 12 noon on a sunny Sunday. I was in a convertible with the top down, and my prized boat was in tow. The drunk with no insurance hit me from...
