Bow Trolley on Trailer instead of Winch, stock

In my 65+ years of boating, that's the strangest contraption I have ever seen. Somehow, the bow of the boat needs to be attached securely to the trailer. Also, the "trolley" needs some way to be pulled all the way forward. Based on the pics, I don't see either.

Just bought this pontoon from dealer, got home with no straps on back !

I did a quick google but couldn't find the right web site. Every state has their own requirements re. trailer brakes, lights, length, width, speed, etc. The last time I saw the chart I believe many if not most states REQUIRE transom tiedowns. Regardless, its simply common sense. Case in...

Just bought this pontoon from dealer, got home with no straps on back !

When I took delivery of my last 2 new boats, both dealers had me sign a paper swearing that I would not drive down the highway without transom straps. One boat came with them standard, the other I brought them with me (I got a rebate for not accepting the safety package because I already had...

Add kicker to fm 1775 wt can it be done

If you are asking about putting a Merc on a Lowe, the answer is probably yes. But you are going to need the correct bracket and the installation will need many many calculations and would probably need to be done by a pro.

I'm advised to change Tohatsu MFS9.9El's prop...

Trolling at low speed and running full throttle to get you home in an emergency are the same requirement. The engine needs to run WOT at the engine's spec rpm range. In "most" cases, the lowest pitch prop available for that motor will be the one required for your application. Buy that prop...

    Freeport Boat

I have had budget boats that had pointy bow and flat transom diagrams and no other info. I have also had upper scale boats that had comprehensive owner's manuals, including electrical and mechanical diagrams. Of course, the engine manuals are a separate book. Google the manufacturer from you...

    Second fuel tank

I have run 3 portable tanks many times in the past. Google 3 position fuel valve. I would simply run one tank to completely empty, and thus the engine would die. Go aft and switch the valve to tank #2, hit the button and it would start up in a few seconds. Now, if I was in view of Niagara...

planning first trip to thousand islands

Targeted boats are the ones with teenagers in control, or if several bikini babes are on the bow. Also, boats that are obviously overloaded. Gofasts that are disobeying any law are given a pass because the officers certainly don't want to offend the rich guys.. Family boats being operated...

    Running outboard during freezing temps?

Notttttt Meeeeeee.....LOL. Serviceable old metal tanks are readily available, and all the needed gaskets are cheap. As long as the inside isn't totally rusted any outside rust is easily fixed.

    Running outboard during freezing temps?

Fuel pumps were added to 'Rudes in the late 1950's. Certainly, that was an improvement because maintaining a pressurized tank was no loner needed. May poopoo the old tanks, but in fact they were quite reliable. As a matter of fact I regularly run one to this day. Obviously, the tank and...

    Running outboard during freezing temps?

Mentioning Martins, I had a consecutive serial numbered pair of Martin 60s (7.2 HP). They were bought together by my FIL and Great Grandpa back in the late 1940's for use at the family cottage. Knowing them both, they must have been cheaper than Evinrudes and Mercurys since they were both...

    Running outboard during freezing temps?

I have been duck hunting when icicles were forming at the end of the peehole. When you take the boat out of the water, just tilt the engine down and the water will run out. Whatever is in the block will still be warm.

planning first trip to thousand islands

If you stay within the Clayton to Alex bay area (the true Thousand Islands) the ships are on a speed limit and their wakes are small. Certainly less than a 30' cruiser at full tilt. Canada DID get porky a few years ago and made you go thru a lot of hoops if you crossed the line. As I recall...

Is it feasible to straighten a prop shaft?

Had a similar problem. The certified dealer said it was OK. It wasn't. Had another certified dealer straighten the shaft. It wasn't. Continued with issues and finally replaced the shaft with a new one. Problem solved.

planning first trip to thousand islands

You see kayaks out there. Sundays are crowded, Saturdays aren't too bad. Weekdays the water is relatively calm and not many boats. The waterway is pretty long and generally the boats are spread out. We never felt uncomfortable even in our little tinny. In contrast, I would never take her...

planning first trip to thousand islands

Before kids we took a vacation to Alexandria Bay for a week. Not knowing what to expect, we put a 10 HP OB in the trunk, but left the boat home. On our first day we took the Uncle Sam's Cruise. Later that day we went to the Thousand Islands Bait Shop (you gotta go there if nowhere else) and...

    Power Winch To Sell

I have a brand new model 712 to sell. Craigslist and Farcebook Marketplace have yielded zero response. I realize that its a bad time of year, but I have it priced at 25 cents on the dollar. The last resort will be Ebay. I'm not trying to sell it here. I AM looking for leads on where would...

    Best out board motor lock

Sorry for the divergence. You need to bolt the motor on anyway, for other reasons. That being the case, install a McGard OB motor lock. Its won't deter the professional thief, but its a little extra protection. Take a picture of the install, so in the worst case scenario you can prove...

    Best out board motor lock

Castle Laws are nice, but all they do is protect you against legal prosecution. Even then, you better be prepared to jump thru a lot of hoops. Shoot a guy in your house and kill him and you might stand a chance. But render him a quadriplegic for life and you can be sure he will hire a lawyer...

    Best out board motor lock

In that case, if he only has battery tools, you better put a butcher knife or a throwaway gun in his hand. A dead intruder may make you feel better, but you have to fear for your life and prove it to take deadly action or YOU will be the one in jail.
