    Transducer installation query

I realize lots of people do that and are satisfied. But, have you tried it both ways and compared performance? It just seems to me that the hull and epoxy would somewhat reduce sensitivity.

    Transducer installation query

10 mm below is going to cause a roostertail. You might not like it. OTOH, that might just be low enough that the weld won't bother you. Most mounts are adjustable up and down. Try it, adjust it, set it where you get good results. I have a chirp transducer on one boat, factory mounted, and...

    Boat covers

IBoats sells Carver Covers. They make generic, semi-custom and custom covers. Check it out - maybe they have a custom cover for your actual model. I'm on my 3rd Carver (3 different boats) and they have outperformed any other cover I ever had. The only cover I ever had that DIDN'T need a...

    1994 Ranger boat w/ 150 xri mercury.

A Mercury or Quicksilver marine grade ignition switch. They are sold here on IBoats. There are several versions available. Look at the pictures and simply match the one you already have. If you don't have one now, go to Mercury Marine.com and look up the part number, then come back here to...

    new mercury 60HP fuel connection

I have a new Merc 60 and a new Merc Kicker as well. I've been running multiple tanks and multiple outboards for over 50 years. My personal operating philosophy is the opposite of yours. I simply hate disconnecting fuel lines because there is always a drip, plus often there is pressure which...

    Rec gas prices???

So, on a purely cost basis, the E0 should cost 3% more. But that isn't the case. It's MUCH more, at least where I live. Thus, if your car runs satisfactorily on E10, that is more "cost effective" fuel. I have an older car and the Owner's Manual says it requires "Unleaded Gas".....LOL...

    Deep cycle battery

I have an older Sears brand charger (Craftsman) and a West Marine Smart Charger and both work well. Since I have a bunch of batteries to tend to last year I bought a Schumacher (brand) charger. Awesome performance and the best one I ever had.

    Deep cycle battery

Yes, that's the proper way, but some people don't know any better and let it trickle for a long time.

    Deep cycle battery

Don't ever use a trickle charger on any battery. Buy a Smart Charger, set it for the type battery you have, and it will turn off and cycle as necessary. A trickle charger will keep trickling until it burns off all your battery fluid.

    Homemade transom savers?

Too many odd boaters that don't use common sense. Nothing better than a bungee cord to hold the engine secure in the full lower position. I see so many guys with older boats with the engine in full up position, when they actually have ample road clearance to keep it down. Case in point - my...

Short shaft motor on long transom

I have had several short shaft transom boats. Wood and Aluminum. The transoms varied in height from 16 - 17".

Upgrading trailer tires and rims - need advice

"D" and "R" are easy to understand. But trailer tires are usually preceded by the letters "ST".

Short shaft motor on long transom

Anything can be "made" to work. But is that the right way? Trade the boat and/or motor and DIRTFT.

Upgrading trailer tires and rims - need advice

Look closely at the specific brand of tire that each place is offering. Then, google that brand and see what the reviews have to say. I am a firm believer in internet sales. One of the reasons is because my local tire dealers sell crap. The last time I bought local, the dealer told me "they...

Replacing trailer axle... what are the considerations?

In your picture it looks like it it is painted white. But I'm not there so I can't see it in person.

Replacing trailer axle... what are the considerations?

It sounds like this is not at all straightforward since its not a simple axle. Reviewing your picture again, boy all the fasteners are simply oozing out rust. I can't see an easy job removing any existing part. The trailer is painted. I can only imagine how bad the inside of the frame is...

Cutty cabin leaks on 96 trophy, any ideas?

Fixing leaks are easy peasy. Show us a pic and we'll detail how to do it.

Replacing trailer axle... what are the considerations?

If they were surge brakes, you would think that the coupler would pr proper and oil lines would be everywhere. If they were electric brakes you would think it would have a 7-pin. Knowing some of the abortions I've seen over the years, I'm going to propose a theory here. The trailer has (had)...

Replacing trailer axle... what are the considerations?

Yes that will work, but its a PITA. You have to remember to get out of the car and finagle the trailer every time you want to back up. Adding the extra wiring isn't that costly. You say you only have 4 pins now. Is that on the trailer too? If so, than right now you don't have brakes at all...
