    1976 Starcraft Chieftain 18' OB - restomod

Well, I'm back and trying to get this project going again. No new health issues since we stopped work, but other life stuff just refused to get out of the way. Over a year lost. There are only 11 months left before the boy leaves home and I lose my most valuable helper. :( The only...

    Nobody fishing?

Well, I got my personal best Largemouth Bass last week. It was 24 inches long and had a 15 inch girth. That calculates out to 7.2 pounds. We took some pix and released the big momma to spawn again! My prior best was a 6.1 pound bass taken in Clear Lake back in 1987. Got my pic in...

Taking apart command 2000 remote control

My control is the Commander, for a 1985 Mercury 50HP 2-stroke, as shown below. I actually got a manual for it online from ebay. The part # is 90-814705R03.

I have returned... with a Starcraft this time!

You called it, boss! It was the switchbox. I updated the repair thread. https://forums.iboats.com/threads/1985-50hp-4-cylinder-power-loss.758226/post-5874849

    1985 50HP 4-cylinder power loss

Just to provide some closure here... it was the switchbox. We worked on the engine for weeks and weeks, troubleshooting various things. But, I finally spotted a long, thin crack with black ooze coming out of the switchbox beneath all those wires. By then (mid-Sept) the weather was...

Taking apart command 2000 remote control

I have three of those controls. I have a buddy who is really good at that kind of disassembly/reassembly stuff... and it defeated him! That was the only time that I've ever seen him not be able to get something apart and back together. I ended up having to buy a used replacement online...

Lost key trying to find replacement

I don't know about Suzuki, but when I lost the key for my old Mercury outboard about 30 years ago, I contacted a dealer and was told that they only had a few variations of ignition keys. There was a code stamped just below the key. I didn't find it, so went to the dealer and he saw the code...

Easier time putting on the trailer

For an aluminum boat, rollers can put little dents in the bottom of the hull over time, so bunks are preferred.

My Chieftain knee brace also had broken tabs and I had a neighbor buddy weld a new set on.

    Boat is slow

The 1975 and 1978 Holidays are rated to 85HP, so if yours is similar, then you're definitely way underpowered with a 40. http://boatspecs.iboats.com/Starcraft_Marine__Holiday_16__1975/bp/66b86452 Minimum for "fair" performance would be a 60HP or better since 75% of max is considered minimum...

    1976 22' SUS O/B "Hydration Break"

I strongly urge you to move those t-nuts to between the backing plate and the main deck piece so that they're securely sandwiched into place between the pieces. I had the ones in my Kingfisher set up the same way as you do now, and when I went to actually install the chair bolts, the t-nuts...

    Need help identifying carb part

I did a temporary repair on mine by using a piece of wooden dowel. I got scolded by the repair shop when they found it the next day. The repair actually lasted a year. But in the end, I forked over the fitty bux for a new one and all has been well since.

    Need help identifying carb part

Those are pricey. I had to replace the one on my 1985 Mercury 50HP. https://www.crowleymarine.com/mercury/products/53719a2-pick-up-bracket-assembly https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00N6DBIFY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
