VP 4.3 winterization simplification .... sorta

@harringtondav . . . Just be careful about the annual disconnecting and reconnecting, as you may encounter a fuel leak at the fittings, which could end badly. Is there a spare fuel fitting on the fuel tank? If so, you could hook up an anti-siphon valve and a shut-off valve, and use it to...

Transom replacement on 1973 seabird 24 ft

"Balsa Wood" . . . Most production boats have plywood structures . . . Balsa wood is typically used as coring in decks or hulls. The nice thing about restoring a boat is that you get to decide what materials to use in the rebuild. Most folks use plywood (exterior grade or marine . . . either...

    Fuel treatment question.....

My new tech engines are not supposed to be run dry (i.e. run out of fuel). Big warning messages in the owner's manual about it.

Engine access is never easy ....but...

The canister type filters usually prescribe 3/4 turn after the gasket makes contact. So, make sure they are not too loose. The factory probably does 1+ turns . . .

Engine access is never easy ....but...

One advantage of a bigger boat is that there usually is decent engine room space . . . . . Access on the port side of the port engine is a little 'iffy' though. I might have to borrow @harringtondav 's Sawzall These engines are actually a breeze to work on compared to the 7.4's on my Formula.

Engine access is never easy ....but...

@Lou C The 4.5 and 6.2 SeaCore versions have full closed cooling. So you would only be replacing the riser portion of the exhaust. . . maybe every 7-9 years.

2002 Cobalt 240 OEM swim deck

Welcome to iBoats . . . Start with contacting Cobalt. However, your best approach may be to get one of the aftermarket platforms. There are several companies that make decent platforms designed to fit particular boats. Google search will bring them up. Plan on about $3K for a decent...

Engine access is never easy ....but...

OMG o_O That's a factory cutout? They didn't even gelcoat the cut edges. As a fellow I/O boater, here are my time (and back bone) saving tips . . . 1) Fuel Filter: How often do you change the fuel filter in your car(s)? 2) Engine fogging: Empty the fuel tank and then put about...

Does anyone know the name of this boat?

I'm thinking the outboard and the trailer may have some value.

    2001 wellcraft 270 costal powered by a mercruiser 7.4 mpi with a bravo 3. Doesn’t accelerate.

My thoughts . . . - That is a big/heavy boat for a single engine, even a 7.4 . . . So, lots of load on the outdrive/engine. - Being a 2001 . . . probably 310 HP and running the MEFI-3 controller  - I tend to agree maybe more the outdrive rather than the coupler. If it were the...

    1993 Wellcraft Eclipse196S Rebuild

The tank looks to be a Moeller brand (certification label). I would pull it out, drain it, (you could suspend the tank upside down to purge the fumes). Clean it up - inside & out, then pressure test it (3 psi)

Does anyone know the name of this boat?

Agreed, the name of it is definitely Gabriel :ROFLMAO: As for the trailer, it is 'Maxum' . . . . Tell us more . . . Are you considering buying ? Looks like there is an outboard motor on the stern

2016 Mercruiser 6.2 ECT - long beep every few minutes???

A quick end-of-season follow up to this voltage issue. Once I joined the accessory battery to the bank of 4 inverter batteries, the voltage issues went away. Essitially, it made the 2 'banks' into one larger bank. The engine control system seems to like that . . . So, I left it alone...

    Fuel treatment question.....

Put some stabilizer in the fuel now (2-3X the recommended amount) run the heck out of it to burn as much fuel as you can. Put it in winter storage and call it good. (y)

Considering installing bow thrusters on single screw 268 Fours Winns.

That style would be an eyesore IMO. You mentioned a question about the value of the boat . . . this style might retract from the value vs. the traditional bow thruster design.

1999 Volvo Penta 5.7 wont restart

Welcome to iBoats . . . Part of the 'joy' of fuel injected engines is that you need a computer and the diagnostic software in order to troubleshoot them. Short of that, it is all guesswork. Maybe post the model # of your engines for more specific comments.

Considering installing bow thrusters on single screw 268 Fours Winns.

I will have to admit that when I had a single engine boat, using a bow thruster was considered cheating :ROFLMAO:

Considering installing bow thrusters on single screw 268 Fours Winns.

Most of the bow thrusters are done with putting a tunnel in the bow of the hull. It really won't affect the boat much and won't even be visible at harbor/docking speeds.

Considering installing bow thrusters on single screw 268 Fours Winns.

You can Google some YouTube videos of folks who have installed a bow thruster. You will need better than average fiberglassing skills as well as mechanical and electrical installation skills.

@Shawboat . . . Can you help clarify what you meant by "enclosed" not sure if you meant closed cooling or something else. Just want to make sure we provide proper input.
