    I/O Characteristics

Don't listen to the "experts", read the freekin owner's manual. Mercruiser says you can run an I/O up past the trim section as long as you keep the rpm below 1000. Our sandbar requires us to go several hundred yards in shallow water. Eons ago, with the boat on the trailer, I raised the...

    Engine Mount Trolling Motors

Surely, the advent of TCW oils was a great improvement. But the change to 50:1 was more about the engine upgrade to roller bearings. Some of the oldies had brass internal parts. I run a couple of motors on 24:1, and I even have one that I use 16:1. Right now I'm using std. Quicksilver oil...

    Trolling

I troll with a 9.9 Kicker, equipped with the lowest pitch prop available, so it runs as high an RPM as possible. It has borderline problematic plugs. We also troll at 1.8-2.2 mph. In my opinion, running a big 40 HP 2-stroke at slow speeds, no matter how you modify it, will cause unacceptable...

    Engine Mount Trolling Motors

Looks is subjective, so that's up to you. Hooking it up to the main motor so you can steer both engines from the helm is easy peasy. You can even add a control box so you can shift and work the Kicker's throttle from the helm. Your motor is designed for 24:1 oil ratio. Regardless of what...

    Trolling

The answer is yes, you can buy props to go slower. Butttt, not slow enough. A slower prop on a 40 2-stroke will not give you what you want. You need a 6 HP kicker with a "slow" prop. That will allow the engine to run at higher RMP and it won't be bogging down and getting fowled all the time...

    NEW TIRES!

I always thought ALL tires need to be rotated, regardless of vehicle or type tire. Eons ago, when radials first became popular, they recommended that the direction of rotation should not be changed. In other words, front to back but never side to side. I kept that up for years, until a dealer...

    NEW TIRES!

Obviously, we all drive differently, and have different vehicles, thus we all have different opinions. In my case, I can't count the number of tires I bought over the past 53 years. The worst I ever had were Coopers. Followed by Uniroyal, Dunlop, General, Firestone and Hankook. Michelins...

    NEW TIRES!

As I said, the last 2 tire replacements on my wife's car were Tripletreads. When we sold the second one and traded for a 2017 Traverse ( HD suspension and class 3 trl package) it came equipped with Forteras. At the time, not knowing what they were, I R&D'd it and found they were the new...

    NEW TIRES!

Cars have suspension systems that are tuned to radials, so that's a different story. But for trailers I agree with your assessment 100%. The only time I will put a radial on any trailer is when they don't make a bias in that size and weight rating. ST tires IMHO are crap.

Using a Manual jack plate to fit a 25” shaft motor

You are trying to put the wrong length motor on your boat. So, you need to raise it 5". When you set back a motor, it has to be raised just because of the setback. So, for 10", you need to raise it 2.5". That's in addition to the 5" you already need to raise it. So, you need to go up 7.5"...

Mooring Cover Options for a 1993 Stinray 556?

You are looking for a cockpit cover and a bow toneau cover, not a mooring cover. They were originally options. If they were not ordered they didn't put the snaps in. You will need to have custom canvas made, and the shop will drill the boat and install the necessary snaps. If it were me...

    New pistol for carry

Google the USPTO: https://patentimages.storage.googleapis.com/de/17/92/1f28e2c414ee85/US7056401.pdf Patents are often made to protect some basic concepts, or to throw the competition off track, but not necessarily to safeguard current practice. The "good stuff" is often kept as a trade...

    NEW TIRES!

I've had tripletreads on my last 2 cars, and also my wife's last 2. Awesome tires. I didn't log in years, but I got 80,000 miles on each set. I just bought a set of Assurance Max Life, only because they didn't make my size in tripletread (20"). t took 6 weeks to get them because the Goodyear...

Purchasing a 1971 23' Winner, no engine, great shape...

I'm a little late in the conversation, but your attitude is refreshing. I have one restoration under my belt, plus a new build from scratch. At the tender young age of 19 I decided I "needed" a boat. Dad, Grandpa and Uncle helped build her. At the tender old age of 60 I decided I "needed" a...

    New pistol for carry

I only bought one box of 50 when I got my first nine. Been rollin my own since then. Dad was a printer and when he retired I got a lifetime supply of boolet lead. I can probably last a couple more years until my primers run out. Hopefully they will be back on the shelves at only high prices...

    New pistol for carry

Wow, lots of firepower there. Now you need to have a dealer that stocks ammo. I haven't seen a round here in almost 2 years. Hope you have good luck with it...

    New pistol for carry

Oh crap, you just made me feel bad......LOL. My Dad had a friend that owned a gas station. He would bring over a 5 gallon bucket of WWs any time I needed some. I would drop over to the station and bring the guys a pizza for their trouble. Every Friday night on the way home I would stop at...

    New pistol for carry

No, I don't have a chrono so I have never collected that data. For handguns I have been experimenting with different powders for 50 years. My criteria are recoil and accuracy. Not too scientific I guess. I have settled on Bullseye for everything up to .38 spl, and Unique for .357 and up. I...

    New pistol for carry

Here's the follow-up range report on the Max 9 on my home range where I can vary the distance. Shoots to POA at 5 yards. As previously reported, shoots ~11" low at 25 yards. Accuracy not to bad for a CC pistol. After 300 rounds still not a malfunction. 10 yards, 20 shots, 2-hand hold, Lyman...

    New pistol for carry

All the Marks are hammer fired pistols. The hammer is concealed. It is commonly accepted that the Mark II is the best of the lot. I used a mark I in Bullseye matched for eons, until I saved enough $ and upgraded to a S&W Model 41. MY score went up about 20 points. That's the only gun I ever...
