    what is make and model?

If the boat is legal and registered you should have paperwork that tells what it is. If not, you may have trouble registering it. There should be a number embossed on the transom - top of starboard side. That will tell year and manufacturer. The boat does not look old enough to not have it...

Seeking Opinions/Advice on the Boat I Just Bought.

Let me just add a few comments to the mix. Everything already recommended is spot on. I redid my tinny in 1986 and she is still in the fleet. I had no seam issues, just a few rivets and they sealed up fine with gluvit. I'll guess the weight at about 1200#. Don't forget you got a cabin on...

    Yamaha or Suzuki Motors.-

Personally I wouldn't buy either one. Not because either is a bad motor, but because there are no servicing dealers within a reasonable driving distance. OTOH, there are 15 Mercury dealers in town.

3 Blade or 4 blade prop?

If you think you need stern lift, there are better ways to achieve it. If you would be disappointed when you lost top speed, a 4-blade isn't the way to go. The reported fuel savings are real, but unless you boat 7 days a week you probably won't take it to the bank. If you want to increase top...

Roller Trailer modification to bunks- Bunk Setup Question

Put keel rollers on all of the crossmembers. That will provide for the best hull support, plus make your launching and loading go like a dream. Adjust them so that the keel is level and parallel with the frame of the trailer. Then adjust the bunks so they contact the hull. Whether the bunks...

Used Outboard Sites and Replacement Advice

If I were re-powering I would buy a 25. I had a boat similar to yours and a 25 was adequate. I never tried a 9.9, but my guess is that it would be marginal, and surely would need to be re-propped. I don't live near an under-10 requirement, so that would not be an issue to me. I have bought 3...

what are these two holes in bilge area?

If there were NO holes and water got in there would be no way for it to escape. Manufacturers that don't put the holes in are simply hoping for the best. You never know what consumners may do, like drill holes for seats and such, and then not seal them up. The solution is a rubber cork...

what are these two holes in bilge area?

I apologize for not comprehending your original post. Your boat needs to be covered in a slip, or in your driveway for that matter. You need to have the auto bilge pump re-connected. Forget what others do, they are wrong. If the boat is covered, there should be no frequent running of the...

    Unknown outboard motor

Stickers? I don't think so. The ID plate on the side of the bracket is visible in your picture. Clean it off and read it. If the paint is gone, sometimes the numbers were embossed and can be read anyway.

what are these two holes in bilge area?

The key is never letting the boat's innards get wet in the first place. The plugs are to keep the water out, and removing them off season will help dry out the hull of the minuscule amount of water that might have gotten in. Once the innards have been compromised, its just a matter of time...

    trailer unknow

In NY ANY trailer must have a VIN or it can't be registered. I had a 4'x8' long Harbor Freight trailer kit and it came with a certificate of origin and a VIN. Many years ago I actually DID build a homemade trailer and I had to applu my own VIN (it was JimS1968.......LOL)

what are these two holes in bilge area?

I had a 1971 Silverline that I bought new and kept for 14 years. It had 5 of those holes, one in each cavity between the stringers. Each hole was fitted with a rubber plug. I never let water stand in the bilge. The pump took it all out except for maybe a 1/2". When we took her home at the...

Oil type for my new pro xs

In this age of litigation, the manual will simply state the minimum requirement to satisfy the warranty. Do you want to be cheep, or keep your multizillion dollar engine in good condition? In my 4 recent Mercury Marine 4-stroke engines I use Mercury branded 25w40 oil. I realize it costs maybe...

    Opinions on winter storage?

No kidding. Access, schmackess. There is always a solution. When I was a youngin and saved and saved and bought my first brand spanking new car ( a 396 Chevelle Supersport), I went down the street and found an old lady whose husband had died and she had no car. For a coupleabucks a month and...

    Retirement in another Country

In my working years I traveled all over the country fixing problems in factories. When my CEO relocated the office down south (for HIS own benefit) I quit and started consulting for all his competitors. Now I became a world traveler. When a job came up and I had to travel to LA, or Chicago...

    Miss marked prop?

I just figured out what the true story here is. Its not ocean or fresh or salt or lakes and rivers, or tohitsu plates, its all about the equator. Boats, motors and spark plugs were all invented by Americans. We are above the equator. The japans merely copied us, they never invented the stuff...

    Opinions on winter storage?

In my youth, Grandpa's boat had to be kept outdoors in Buffalo, NY winters. He always used a double canvas tarp, which was re-waterproofed every few years. In later years, they came out with these plastic ripstop tarps and all the old geezers said NOOOOO, never on a boat. I personally have...

    Dry Launch

Mine has a metal pin that can be inserted to deactivate the brakes. Regardless, if you have LEDs, no need to unplug.

    Dry Launch

I had Wesbar submersible (bell jar principal) on my last trailer. I unplug every time (can't possibly forget because its on my checklist). After 35 years I sold the boat and it still had the original bulbs. Right now I have about 10 years on a pair of marine grade LEDs.
